Have A Cage For Your Finch That Is Its Castle

By Marjorie J McDonald

Finches make amusing pets because they have so much activity. They can be fun to look at because of how lively and generally appear very contented. So they have frequently been on my short items list of kinds of pets I'd like to have and always want to .

Because of their amount of activity, the scale of their cage becomes one of the most vital parts of having this interesting pet. You know how you're feeling when your house starts to feel cramped and cluttered. Your finch buddy feels the same way so plan for at least two and a half feet long. Longer if at all possible since the finch gets their regular exercise by flying.

Who knew finches need exercise just like I need exercise. I have to walk or jog nevertheless , to get in my laps as we used to call them in track and field classes. We had to do so many laps before our exercise session was finished.

For your finch they want short flights so have the cage and the arrangement of the things in the cage, feeders, swings, water, or perches prepared so they have those open, tidy places where they can fly.

Imagine if your track was crammed with hurdles, it might be nerve wracking for you to run so do not stress your finch by putting things in its way. It will reward you by continuing to be active and healthy.

Where I live yearly they had the yearly road-race and annually it increases in amounts of runners. One of my friends ran but prepared in advance by drinking water well the day before and the morning of the race. She did not experience any pain while running but said many round her were complaining. While they were getting water handed to them along the race course, it would be less painful on them to have hydrated before the race started.

You finch should be well hydrated too so make sure that you put different dishes of food and water and monitor them closely so your flying pal doesn't run completely out of either but particularly the water.

Finches like to have a place to perch. Provide various sizes so your finches feet can also be exercised. If you did not have any physical issues just exercised your arms, your legs would be really cranky with you. While your finch does not get cranky you still should provide the items it mustto stay healthy. Many finch owners do not take excellent care of their finches so I would like to inspire you to think through all of the things that may

allow your finch to be and remain additional well tended and healthy.

Some perches which do unique duty are cement perches which keep your finches toenails trimmed, but if this is the one perch type you provide it can be hard of the finches feet over a long period of time.

Natural perches from branches of trees or bushes are a good change for your finches feet and definitely easy to find in your yard. Utilise a bird protector disk to keep mites from traveling in on the branches or being brought in to your finches cage.

Your finch loves toys in the cage to play with so pick out a few toys at a time and exchange them out on occasion to give your finch variety. Some ideas should be swings, ladders, beads and mirrors.

Another extra important thing about your fiches cage is to keep it clean. A weekly schedule will help you stay on track with this job. An additional cage to move your finches to while you are cleaning is a wonderful idea and will help you and your finches.

Tools and supplies for cleaning the finches cage are:

hot, soapy water

rinsing water

paper hand towels, newspaper or brown paper bags for the bottom of the cage for easier cleanup

Use to scrub the cage and all items or accessories you have in the cage. Let everything dry thouroughly.

When everything is dry you can begin to bring your finches back to their clean home or castle and your fun with them can continue as their comfort in a clean home continues too. Everybody likes to be refreshed.

Speaking of being refreshed, put a small shallow dish of water for them to bathe in 1 or 2 times a week. I know when I finish my exercises I want a shower so your finches wish to wash be clean too.

And there you have it, your finch now can have a castle in your castle. I guessI guess I could end by adding, sole for humour sake and you can or could then both live contentedly forever.

How To Keep Your Dog Warm

By Katherine Parker

Unless you live in Hawaii, American winters can get cold. Even the hottest spots of Arizona can get very cold at night, and as sweltering as Southeastern states become in summer, they get bone-chilling damp-cold in December and January . Just like humans, pets must have a proper way to snuggle up when the winter comes. Heated beds might be required in the chillier areas of, say, Wisconsin and Montana. With the exception of areas with extraordinarily cold temperatures, your dog or dogs could be well served by pet warmers. If you are looking at pet warmers along with dog beds for sale, it's a wise consideration.

Furthermore, short hair and aging dogs might be in regular need of thermal care year-long. With that said, let's take a look at some pointers to help get you going on the right way to find the right pet warmers for dogs .

The kind of canine you have will decide the scale of the bed and/or pet warmer. This is the first thought for deciding which is the right dog bed to get. Pet warmers, just like all dog beds for sale, come in a bunch of sizes. The importance of warmers over heaters is warmers maintain heat. Electrical heat is a dry heat that may cause skin irritation, burns, and dry sinuses in dogs.

Pet warmer bed material is also a vital consideration as you should ideally choose those warming pads that are durable. Since dogs are known to munch things rather a lot , one of the best selling points towards pet warmers is that there aren't any electric cords. They are thermal, and conserve the dog's own body heat.

Hopefully this provides an understanding about the usability of pet warmers. They are, frankly , safer and cozier.

C&C Cage Danger Alert

By Bob Matthews

In recent times, C&C (Cubes and Coroplast) cages have grown continuously in popularity and have taken over a serious slice of the small animal pet habitat market. A fast Google search will show many web sites that now offer directions for do-it-yourself basic C&C cages. In addition, a number of C&C cage stores have sprung up online and offer C&C cages in kit form. The most important reasons for the increasing popularity of this cage technology is that 1) very large cages are available - typically much larger than those sold in pet stores and 2) C&C cages are comparatively inexpensive. By virtue of these factors "the purchaser can get plenty of cage for the money. Nonetheless as the old proviso goes: Let the buyer beware. There is one major potential danger the responsible pet owner must watch for when buying or building their very own C&C cage.

As I discussed before, a few sites offer directions on building simple, basic C&C cages. A lot of them also list sources for materials. 1 or 2 nationwide department store chains are recommended as sources for metal grids. The problem is that a lot of this info is now several years old and some of the grid sources have changed their products.

Not many years ago, one of the nation's dep. store chains was a great spot to buy grids for C&C cages. They were available as cube or shelving unit kits. The kits contained both the metal grids and plastic connectors used to fasten them together. The square grids were 14-inches on each side and were laid out in a 9-space by 9-space grid. Thus, each opening was roughly 1.5 inches square. And these girds made absolutely wonderful cages.

As the economy took a turn for the worse, the company had this product reworked in order to take material out of it and save cost. The new product now contained grids that had only 8 spaces per side. Thus, each space was just a little bigger - only around a 5th of an inch. No big deal if you were building a shelf to hold stuffed animals, comics or your hat collection from Sweden. However , that fifth of an inch was a very large deal to C&C cage builders and owners.

Just after the design change, guinea pig rescue organizations began receiving reports of guinea pig strangulation deaths. Some of the associations started issuing cautions to avoid 8x8 grids and only use 9x9 grids. Several also made contact with C&C cage stores with the same caution. In reality it was through contact with these organizations that our company first heard of this issue.

After deciding on the C&C technology, you'll have 2 choices in obtaining your cage. You can design and build your cage from nothing out of grids, corrugated plastic and other hardware that you buy yourself. Or you can order your cage in kit form and build it with the directions and materials provided. Either way, be absolutely sure to use only grids with spacing of 1.5 inches or smaller. When using 14-inch grids, be sure to use only 9x9 girds and definitely avoid 8x8 grids.

Build Your Own Aquaponic System: Some Things You Should Know

By Brandon Sharp

If you're checking into organic or aquaponic gardening you are probably thinking about or already tending a garden of your own. This isn't a bad idea considering the present economic situation. Did you know that you can easily build your own aquaponic system?

I went into the store to buy salad makings for dinner and after spending several minutes picking through heads of lettuce that were partially brown or so wilted the leaves were slimy, I found a head of lettuce about the size of a navel orange. I was bothered more with the condition of the lettuce they were trying to sell and with wasting my time than I was with the price which was $1.99 a head.

Maybe it's just me, but I like my vegetables fresh and crisp. It's getting so hard to find good produce at supermarkets anymore. The tomatoes are too soft. The cucumbers are too spongy.I could go on and on, but, you get the idea. To pick up a tomato here and a cucumber there gets really costly in gas and time.

While doing research my interest was really peaked by something called Aquaponics 4 you. I did a lot of research and became more and more interested. I don't like playing in the dirt or killing bugs and hungry little critters, so aquaponics really sounded like the way to go.

If you love gardening, or the idea of gardening but you have a bad back, or bad knees, or arthritis, or not enough of time, or one of a million other reasons not to enduldge in your interest, aquaponics may be just what you're looking for. Aquaponics is the collaboration between aquaculture and hydroponics. Sounds scary, huh? Simply put, aquaponics is fish and plants working together to keep each other healthy.

If you like the idea of saving, and maybe even earning money, you should find aquaponic gardening attractive. You can raise healthy fish for food or for recreational purposes as well as healthy, fresh vegetables or decorative plants.

When you have an aquarium you have an automatic filter or you have to remove the fish so you can clean the tank and fill it with clean water. If you don't, your fish will die. During the recirculation process in an aquaponic system that water is pumped into your plant's bed providing nutrients for the plants which cleanses the water. That clean water is then pumped back into the fish tank, providing the fish with clean water. No fertilizer, no chemicals, no back-breaking digging and watering and no, "ugh", cleaning the fish tank.

One of the most effective ways of displaying the pride you take in a personal project is by sharing it with others. The density of your aquaponic garden's production will permit you to turn your efforts into profit. Not only will you be providing a healthy diet for yourself and your family, but you will be helping others to do the same while benefiting financially.

When gardening with aquaponics the yield is approximately 10 times the plants in about half the time as with conventional gardening. Neither weather nor predators are a threat to your garden.

Have you ever thought about growing your own garden, but considered the idea impossible because you didn't have the time? No problem. Once your aquaponic garden is up and running properly, it'll require no more than an hour of your time each day just to make sure everything IS running properly.

Save wear and tear on your body; save on your water and grocery bills while having fresh fish and vegetables at your fingertips.

Just take it easy while your fish do all the work.

Human Food that can Poison the Dog

By Jerry Welsh

Dogs only need to look pleadingly at the master and they would get whatever they want. Dogs are noted to being good eaters and how these animals love people food. Dogs are not to blame. No dog in his right mind would choose kibble over mouthwatering people food.

Since the pet food scare that resulted to the deaths of hundreds of dogs, pet parents have taken to feeding the dog home cooked meals rather than giving the pet commercially prepared food that may be contaminated with toxic substances. However, a dog owner that gives this kind of diet to the pet must be aware that some people foods are poisonous to dogs. Some people food are not tolerated by dogs because of their different metabolism. Not many dog owners are aware that the innocuous looking chocolate is poisonous to dogs.

People really love eating chocolates. Chocolate bars, choco drinks, baking chocolate and many other types of chocolates are mainstays in people's larder because chocolate is a favorite food. However, even a small amount of this mouth watering treat can have dangerous effects on the dog. Theobromine, the naturally occurring chemical is what poisons the dog. Theobromine is a stimulant that affects the nervous system and the heart of a dog. The effects of toxicity on the dog would depend on the theobromide content of the chocolate consumed. The level of theobromine increases as the chocolate gets darker thus cocoa beans would contain the most amount followed by baking chocolates. Milk chocolate and chocolate mixes would have the least amount of this dangerous stimulant.

The dangerous effects of chocolate depends on what kind was consumed, on the amount and on the body weight of the dog. After the dog has ingested a toxic amount of chocolate, the pet may suffer from vomiting and diarrhea. Restlessness and hyperactivity are indications that the dog's body has already absorbed the toxic substance. Frequent urination, muscle twitching excessive panting are other symptoms of chocolate poisoning. If treatment is not given, the dog can die about 30 minutes after consuming chocolates with high level of toxicity as the poisonous substance would result to arrhythmia so that blood flow to the brain and to the other organs will be affected.

There is no antidote for chocolate poisoning. Dogs that have ingested chocolates must have emergency treatment even if the amount or the kind of chocolate the dog has ingested is unknown and even if the dog has not shown any symptoms of poisoning.
