By Zhanghui Zhenlihoa

For most pet owners, training dogs is hard work. Some however, find it a very enjoyable activity; they see it as a way to reach a higher understanding with their pet through patience and steady effort.

Canines are very excitable mammals, so long as they think something is fun - they're more inclined to jump in. If the owner manages to make training their dog fun rather than hard and rigorous, the better the results are at teaching the dog something new. Having it run around to catch a stick or chase around a ball is not only fun for both of you, but it's also training!

A crucial ingredient of insuring that your dog internalizes what you are teaching it is the value understanding. Training a dog to go fetch something is easy when you use simple words for commands and do with good repetition. The less words you use, the better it at understanding you.

It is important to make your dog understand that you are its follower and you are its owner and master. This helps in establishing a mutual exchange with your pet - dogs believe in either following or leading. Don't let it come to a point that it is leading you instead of you leading it. If you cannot establish that, you may have problems training your dog.

Remember, these dog training tips are only guidelines - there rest is up to you to figure out as you proceed on a journey of discovery between you and your pet dog. The important thing is that you learn from your mistakes and grow to understand each other as pet and owner.
