How To Contemplate In Home Pet Euthanasia

By Linda Hewitt

Euthanasia is putting a pet to death painlessly. It is a very hard decision to make and should take a lot of thought when deciding. In home pet euthanasia is an idea that many people will consider when they are making the sad decision.

Terminal illness or painful injuries that cannot be repaired is when people start thinking about putting their pet to sleep. When a pet is suffering and the pain cannot be controlled people would rather end the pets life humanely then to watch their beloved pet suffer.

Pets who are terminally ill or in the older category might not seem to be in pain. They are the pets that usually stop eating and find a place of solitude for themselves. People will look at these signs and decide what should be done. They do not wish to see their companion slowly starve.

Veterinarians will help verify that the decision is correct. They do not take the task lightly. It is a heavy and sometimes disturbing responsibility of the profession.

There are two choices when putting a pet to sleep. One is to have it done at the veterinarians office, and the other choice is to do it in the home of the pet. This is always another difficult decision.

When people do not own their own property and do not have any way to bury their pet they might consider that option where the task is done at the office. Pets are cremated at the office after the task is complete.

For people who have the privilege of burying their pet, they might choose to have the task done in their own home. Having it done this way will have the pet in its own home, surrounded by everything and everyone it is familiar with.

If this is the option that is chosen discuss with the veterinarian if it can be performed in the companions home. If having it done this way is not possible then ask for someone who will. Because of the special trip that they will be making to the house it may cost a little more.

Valium is injected first into the pet. The pet will then relax completely. Then the final shot will be given. When the task is done the pet will slowly stop breathing. In the comfort of the home where the people and the loved companion grew up together.
