Why You Must Have Flat Roof ?

By Scott Rodgers

People usually get confused as to what type of a roof to install. They are usually in a dilemma thinking whether to go in for a flat roof or a slanting roof. A flat roof is a cheaper option. It has some other advantages also.

Flat roofs are easily accessible as compared to another types of roofs. As they do not have any slope, there is no chance that one can slip from it. Also, it can be utilized in many ways.

You cannot go on a sloping roof and enjoy sunbath. Can you? But it is possible on a flat roof. So, with a flat roof, you can have a terrace, a personal space where you can do a lot of things, which are not possible on a sloping roof.

A flat roof is not completely flat. It has a slight invisible slope that helps water to drain down instead of accumulating on the roof. if the water doesn't accumulate on your roof, your home is protected from leakages and other such problems.

Another great advantage of having a flat roof is that it helps you save a lot of room space in your home. No space is lost below a flat roof as in case of sloping roof. The structure of sloping roofs is bound to create a dead space inside your house, which you can't use under any circumstances.

Another reason to consider a flat roof is that it is very quick to construct. As the surface area of a flat roof is lesser than that of a slanting roof, it takes much lesser time to construct. Again, lesser surface area also means less amount of raw material to be used, which in turn means that you need to spend less amount of money.

As far as life expectancy of a flat roof is concerned, it depends upon how much you maintain it. Another factor that influences life expectancy of a flat roof is the type of material you use to construct it. It is advisable to use the best quality of material.

Yearly inspections by an expert roofer also go a long way in maintaining the roof. One must strictly follow the suggestions given by the roofer. You can say that a flat roof has a lot of advantages over sloping roofs.
