Best Tips on How to Train A Puppy

By Bill Weston

If you have a new puppy, or are thinking about getting one, then you will certainly be needing some of the best tips on how to train a puppy for your arsenal.

He may be chewing on your shoes, eating the furniture or acting in an undesirable manner. Perhaps you just want him to be trained so you can enjoy his company without worry.

A lot of people find it difficult to train a dog of any age or breed. This can cause a lot of frustration for the owner, and it leads to an untrained animal in the house.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are many techniques to try. Many people struggle with one method, but have great success in others.

Looking for some tips on how to train your puppy?

* Puppy Potty Training: The obvious first tip in training. If the dog knows where to use the bathroom and where not to, all other tips and techniques will come together much more easily, for both dog and trainer.

* Puppy Crate Training: The crate gives the animal a chance to be in a cal state while in the crate. This can help tremendously with social anxiety issues, because he will be used to being in a calm state while in the crate

* Excessive Barking - All dogs have a reason to bark, but not necessarily to bark in an extreme manner. The trick is to get them to stop over-barking, not to stop them from barking completely.

When a tail-wagger barks too much, they are often just craving attention from anybody who will listen. By yelling at him to stop, or giving him a treat to stop, the owner is simply reinforcing the behavior.

Each solution will have different road blocks, depending on the animal. There are many solutions available to help aid in barking problems, and none have to be a punishment to him.

* Clicker Training - A really great, and safe way to train your dog is with a clicking device. A clicking sound is made when acceptable or unacceptable behavior is demonstrated. This, in turn, leads to an understanding between you and the dog that a click could means something very positive is coming, like a treat or some affection.

In case one technique does not work, there will be many other methods that you can try. As you try to incorporate new rules to a new friend, test each one to see what the efficacy may be.

In order for everyone in the home to be happy, the K-9 should be taught how to be happy himself. When this happens, then having a pet becomes a fantastic experience that the entire family can enjoy.
