The advantages and disadvantages of having an animal to take care of are too many to count. However, cats do not get into as many things as a canine would.

However, canines typically need to be taken outside to relieve themselves; some smaller canine species been trained to use a small training pad, which is commonly called the pee pad which can be used to let pups use the bathroom inside. The pad, however, cannot be left sitting for much longer than a couple minutes after it is used because they are only made for one time uses.
The energy levels of an animal like a canine can be a bit overwhelming. This also needs to be taken into consideration, because an active lifestyle is not necessarily necessary to have a dog, but a stagnant lifestyle most certainly will not be a good fit for a canine. Small spaces are also not necessarily the best atmosphere for an animal that needs constant exercise and attention.
