Get the Scoop on Real Dinosaurs

By Pat Ryan

About one hundred and sixty five million years dinosaurs wondered on this Earth. These reptiles strangely went extinct 65 million years back, leaving their fossils behind as proof that they once existed. Individuals who are understanding these colossal animals believe these creatures live today as birds and this theory is based on the feathers that have been on the skeletons.

The real dinosaurs belonged too the archosaurs, which is a specific subgroup. This group includes birds and crocodiles. These mighty creatures of the Mesozoic Era left us humans many indications of what they looked like and how they thrived on this Earth. The fossils bring clues of the way they resided. Some of them have bumpy, thick skin, while others have ancient feathers. In the paragraphs below, we are going to give you the 101 behind these wonderful creatures that once walked this earth.

Most of these miraculous creatures came from eggs. They say they were not able to fly in the air or live in water . To say the least, they are energetic and fast. While others were very talI, it is said that some were small. The smallest is said to be about the size of a chicken while the biggest one is believed to be about one hundred feet long.

Experts tell us it is hard to figure out their color, mating habits and behaviour even after doing a lot of research and studies. From the fossil alone, it is hard to tell if the creature was a male or if it was a female.

For 100's of years, these huge fossils have been referred to as dragon bones. Numerous kinds of these creatures lived during different times. While others only walked on two legs you had some that walked on all four legs.

By looking at the tooth structure along with the contents of the stomach experts have determined the things they eat. Sometimes they are able to find traces of food in the abdominal cavity especially when the fossils have been well-preserved.

One is able to determine how fast the creature was able to run y looking at the footprints that have been preserved. This method utilizes equations that are based on the distance between their prints as well as the size of the feet.

The faster ones are about twelve meters per second, which is around twenty seven miles per hour. They say these creatures rarely ever dragged their tail while they walked or ran from looking at the tracks.

The discoveries in North America in the 1800's is what gave everyone a real glimpse of how these creatures were although the fossils have been found in many places throughout the world. a lot of the popular dinos were named in the late 1800's which is known as the "golden age". The evidence is nesting deep in the surface of the Earth even it is true that it is hard to believe these type of creatures once roamed the Earth that us humans walk on today. You never know what the palaeontologists are going to dig up next.
