What Makes Ragdoll Kittens Unique

By Tisha Vaughan

Ragdoll kittens are probably the most friendly, most relaxed and most lovable cat breeds that you would ever get to see in your life. They are pretty cute because they have the tendency to go limp as noodle when you hold it.

Now where did Ragdolls come from? Around the 1960s, Ann Baker had a cat which was named Josephine whose breed is probably Angora or Persian and she sired several litters with different Siamese cats which supposedly shows us how the kitties got their color and fur but not why the Ragdolls are so docile.

Among the popular myths was that Josephine got hit by a vehicle and suffered brain damage that was genetically passed to its kitties. Another myth was that it was experimented on. Both are complete bogus according scientists.

The kittens are adorable, born white, with very intense blue eyes, they just beg petting. Their fur is also very easy to maintain, and most people would compare it to rabbit fur. The kittens would not develop the color of the fur until around a month later, and it takes a few more years for the full color to appear.

These cats are big but they do not bite. Male cats are a bit larger than female cats and when fully grown, they usually weigh up to 20 pounds.

Just remember that it is an indoor pet. It will follow almost anyone around and would not know how to defend itself. Other than that, it is a very adorable kitty, one that the family is sure to love. Read more about: ragdoll kittens
