What You Should Know about Yorkie Grooming

There is no doubt that Yorkshire terrier is a great pet. They are small and thanks to this they are easy to pick up and get around, but as well they are great watchdogs. They are fragile and thus are not the best protectors, but still they are alert and notify you if there is any noise or movement that you could not be able to hear yourself. Even if there are kids in home, Yorkies make great pets.

Bear in mind that they have to be trained like any other type of dog, however as long as you give them proper training when they the young they will make the perfect pet and a great companion. Keep in mind that Yorkie grooming is said to be a downfall to this breed since they need much more care and maintenance than any other breed. However, if you have enough time and desire to do this, you will have no problems.

Prior to starting grooming your Yorkie, it is necessary to mention that they are a single coated breed. In other words they do not have undercoat. Unlike the majority of breeds, their coats are similar to human hair. However this does not mean that you have to use a human shampoo on dog's hair since dog's hair have another chemical balance than human and thus using this type of shampoo on them could result in flaky and dry skin.

Keep in mind that bathing is an important part of Yorkie grooming and it is necessary for you to bathe them on a regular basis - one or two times a week. That way their hair will be free from dirt and they will not get matted.

Nowadays there are a lot of various dog's shampoos for you to select from and bear in mind that you have to be careful when washing around the dog's eye so that water and soap do not get into them.
