Dog Training: How to Handle Submissive Urination

By Dirk Gruenberg

It is a considerable challenge to teach submissive dogs how to avoid submissive urination. Your main goal in this case should be to make your dog become more confident. This is something you can learn.

It is a good idea finding out what your dog's body language is all about, because your dog can show his submission in a lot of different ways. Some dogs lay back their ears, others will have their tail between their legs.

Something that happens quite often in case of submission is what we call submissive urination. What many people think is that their dog is urinating in front of them intentionally.

Some do not understand that submissive urination cannot be controlled by their dog and therefore think their dog urinates to make them angry. This is not the case and instead of yelling at your dog you should help him to get rid of this problem.

You should handle your dog gently. Don't make him feel that he has done something wrong. Don't look directly into his eyes and avoid anything that makes your dog become excited.

Because being excited can be one of the reasons for submissive urination, always try to calm your dog down, when something exciting happens. This will help him a lot with his submissive urination.

You can train your dog at the Agility course. This may help your dog increase his confidence. It is also a very good exercise for your dog. You can have some time together with your dog.

You can find many fun activities. Training a submissive dog takes time and you need to be patient. You should not be nervous when you train your dog.

You need be calm and you need to be persistent. Submissive dogs need confidence and you should avoid any aggressive behavior. You can train your dog to stop submissive urination. You just need to have a good training program and persistence.
