General Information On Toy Husky

By Leslie Ball

Many people have dogs as pets. These animals are considered close companions of humans. There are many different breeds available, each with their own set of traits. Husky is the name used to describe the types of dogs employed to pull sleds in northerners. They are known for their fast-pulling style. Although these may be used for this purpose, they are also domestic breeds that people keep as pets. A toy husky refers to dogs bred to be miniature.

Typically, these dogs are athletic and high energy. They often have a thick coat that may range in color from copper red, to white, black and gray. Huskies are known for having pale blue eyes, although there are some with brown, green and yellow eyes. It is common for these dogs to have different colored eyes, a characteristic called heterochromia.

Historically, these animals were bred in norther regions for hunting and sled-pulling purposes. They are now seen in many different areas of the world. Most have been domesticated and serve as pets. It is believed that this breed is a direct descendant of wolves in the wild.

Generally speaking, these animals are considered landrace breeds. They are most commonly found among the indigenous people of the Arctic. Huskies are said to be among the oldest breeds of dog to exist. There are many different types, such as: American Akita, American eskimo dog, Alaska Klee Kai, Canadian eskimo dog, Alaskan, Labrador, Alaskan malamute, Mackenzie River and more.

There is a certain method that was used for breeding these small huskies. It began around the 1990s when Bree Normandin started doing selective breeding to make huskies in a more compact size. Standard huskies that were smaller in stature than normal were mated so that their genes could be propagated and passed along to puppies. Many dog organizations, including the American Kennel Club, do not consider these dogs to be their own separate breed. Rather, they classify them as part of the size variation in huskies.

Generally speaking, these smaller dogs still carry the traits associated with the husky. These animals are good for families and extremely friendly, even with strangers. They are hard workers and players and known for being gentle. Toy huskies are typically bred to be no larger than 13 inches. Miniatures may fall more in the region of 13 to 15 inches. The standard size of a husky is typically between 15 and 17 inches tall. The small huskies are expected to weigh less than 40 pounds when full grown.

People may have to search around pet stores, shelters and breeders to find these animals. The cost for full-bred toy and mini huskies will range, but is often costly. Still, people are encouraged to do research on this type of dog to learn what it requires to stay healthy and happy. It is important to do a background check when buying directly from breeders to ensure the animals are full-bred and healthy.

A lot of pet owners may want smaller dogs for a lot of reasons. They are generally easier to care for and do well in smaller spaces. People who get toy huskies get all of the same attributes they like in this breed, but in a smaller and more manageable size.
