Coping With Pet Grieving In The Best Way Possible

By Shirley West

Coping with the loss of a pet is never easy. It can be as difficult as letting go of your own child. Having a cat or a dog is like having a child, so for many people this is something that takes much time to deal with the various emotions. Pet grieving is a necessary part of life for the entire family.

You may be feeling guilty at a time like this because of the fact that you had expensive vet bills that you simply could not afford to pay. Your pet could have been involved in a serious accident. One always wishes that they could have been there at the time. However, these are thoughts that you have to put aside.

Some people may feel guilty during this time, not being able to do enough for the animal. It may have been in an accident and you may been been feeling guilty, wishing you were there at the time. Vet bills are expensive and this is something that you were not able to afford. Operations could also be something that you were not able to afford.

No matter what people tell you at the time, there is not a lot that can comfort you at the time. This is something that you have to work through on your own. Grieving is a very personal thing. You may find that counseling is an option. This especially relates to someone who only had their pet to rely on as company. They may be feeling empty and depressed at a time like this.

The same would apply for another pet in the family. They would act like another sibling. They would have been with the animals day and night. To suddenly lose their friend can be hugely traumatic. They would not have had a chance to say goodbye. Sometimes they will be looking and searching around the house for him or her. You need to give them lots of attention during this time.

Other pets will also be affected. You have to remember that your pets who have been with your cat or dog that died would have developed a close bond. They would have been a brother or sister, and they need attention during this time. Make sure you give them love by playing with them. This will also help you on your journey.

Dealing with your emotions is very important. Many folk are so overwhelmed that they choose not to deal with their feelings. They may just get on with things and carry on with life. However, this is not the best way forward because there will come a time when you will have to face your pain. It is best to face up to this as soon as you can.

It is not always easy to know when your pet needs to be put to sleep. Sometimes, pets are very old and are unable to cope with life anymore. There are illnesses that they develop, such as cancer. One often just wants to put them out of their suffering. One knows this is the right thing to do. Obviously, at the same time you don't want to part with them.
