By Helen Young

Who doesn't love a baby cat? They are usually cute, cuddly, and loving. If you are interested in extending your cat ownership to purebred felines, TICA registered ragdoll kittens may be a great addition to your family. Some people purchase these types of cats purely to show, some are content to keep them just as valued family members, and still others are looking for a combination of both. Whatever your goal, there are a number of things you should consider prior to buying one of these fascinating cats.

Someone looking for a purebred cat, should be very careful to research breeders and select only the most reputable for consideration. The International Cat Association has lists available online for you to choose from. If you are planning on showing your kitten, selecting one of these breeders will ensure that you have a pedigreed animal.

Ragdolls are a specialized breed with very specific personality traits and physical characteristics. These are large animals as cats go, but traditionally very gentle, docile, and friendly. Lying limply in their owner's arms is one of the traits that comes to mind when describing them. Ragdolls usually mix well with other animals. They have unique markings, color combinations, and also beautiful blue eyes.

Even though children often beg for pets and promise to help care for them, they do not always create the most favorable environment for a small animal. At the very least, children will need constant adult supervision to make sure pets are well treated. Your should also consider the other aspects of your lifestyle before you commit to the responsibility that comes with being a pet owner.

Your and your family probably have rules of household conduct that everyone is supposed to follow. It is no different for a pet. You new feline will have to learn what is and what is not acceptable behavior. Litter box use is a must, and it should be an easy thing to teach a kitten what you expect. Initially you can limit where the cat is allowed to roam and gradually widen its horizons as it gets used to its surroundings.

A ragdoll is really no different that any other cat. If you intend to show it, you will find sound advice from the International Cat Association members and breeders. The decision of whether or not to get into the business of showing you cat should be made carefully. It certainly requires more than just purchasing a kitten that is registered.

Not all cats are suited for this type of enterprise. They have to have the right temperament and not be easily frightened or distracted by noise, people and other felines. They also have to be willing to be handled by judges who will be strangers to them. Luckily most ragdolls possess these general characteristics.

Show cat or house cat, a ragdoll can be a great addition to your family. They will most likely turn into devoted companions and special friends for many years to come.
