Due to its small and compact size, the breed has a more compact airway, and given its snub nose, has difficulty in regulating its temperature. It is quite common to hear of a few deaths being caused by extreme cold or heat conditions, the former occurring due to its thin coat of fur. Thus this is not really the dog for you if you live in extreme climates. It is one that is definitely more suited to climates that are of a more temperate condition.

As this dog ages, as all pets will tend to do, it will have complications related to the eyes. You should also be prepared to lose this dog early on in your attachment, lasting on average only from eight to ten years. Lifespan of course can be further lengthened with proper care and maintenance.
