Importance Of Using Hay Nets For Horses

By Bernadette Martin

Raising a horse is not really that easy to do. This is especially true if you are new to it and you have no experience. Learning how to properly care for and feed the animal is your best bet towards ensuring that it is indeed going to successfully thrive under your care.

What you need to do this time is find ways on how you will be able to get your horse fed regularly. However, you want to make sure that you are dong this without overfeeding it in the process. Many owner these days have actually opted for the use of hay nets for horses to ensure forage access 24/7.

People who have huge area of lands that have natural grass and forage growing on them will actually find that letting the animals roam around to graze is always ideal. Grazing allows them to remain full and well-fed. This is challenge for those that are growing these animals in limited spaces though. Good thing though, they can always choose to purchase bales that they can give to the animals.

Most people are concerned that giving the horse access to forage all the time might cause them to waste hays in the process. With a slow feeder, this is prevented for, happening, there will be small nets that will prevent the hays from being removed from the bale in such huge amount, the horse is force to feed on the forage in slower manner. Hence, wastage is prevented.

You will need the slow feeder to ensure that he is not eating way too fast. Overeating can cause some issues as well and you want to make sure that proper steps are taken to actually prevent that from happening. It does help though that you will actually get the hays bundled up in net containers. This way, the container will prevent overeating and will slow down the consumption to mimic what natural grazing is like.

What is good is that this can actually help save you from a lot of trouble. If you are going to give a horse a full bale for grazing, expect that this is going to last for an entire week. This means that you do not need to have to constantly check on the horse to see if he has forage since you're sure that the net will ensure that he will not end up consuming everything all up in a short time-period.

Understand that there is a need for the horse to have hay in the gut all the time. Depriving them from food for a long period of time is going to cause issues with their health. This is only likely to cause issues like ulcer and colic. With them being able to forage all the time, you are sure that you can keep then in their best shape all the time. So, do take time to find the right slow feeder.

Be sure to shop around in order for you to find the best choice there is. You need to get the ones that would be appropriate for the horse that you'll be using it for. Consider the size and the capacity of the net. There will be a number of stores that can be found around, try to focus on those that can be trusted to offer them to you in such durable state and such good prices.
