Information On French Bulldog Breeders

By Ruth Jackson

Prestige has risen in the dog breeding industry a lot over the years. As a result, many people even those with no interest or experience in dog breeding have flocked into the industry. They hope to benefit financially even though they have little to offer in terms of maintenance of breed standards. That is why is can be problematic to find French bulldog breeders who are responsible enough, especially if one is not knowledgeable.

If one live in the United States, the best way to go about finding a good breeder is going to dog shows. Dog shows attract several specialists in the field of dog breeding and one is likely to find a seller there. Besides dog shows, the American Kennel Club also advises people to access its marketplace to find information about the specific breed one is interested in.

One can find additional information about a specific breed from parent clubs of the breed in question. Parent clubs usually have websites that offer information. Most of them also have several offices spread across the US. One may also visit the offices of the AKC club around the country to get more information. In order to be better placed when meeting a breeder, one should do some research of their own in advance.

As stated above, not all breeders are legitimate. Other are just interested in making money, and they care less about breed standards and other qualities. Normally, they hold full-time jobs elsewhere and only do breeding when they are free. Such people pay little attention to clients and they never have any puppies readily-available for sale. It is advisable to avoid people of that kind and instead focus more on breeders who have experience and knowledge in the science of breeding dogs.

After meeting a potential breeder, one should request for a meeting at their premises where they do the breeding. One should request to see the puppies and their parents, both if possible. Seeing the parents will help one to make a decision regarding the appearance and temperament of the puppies when they come of age. If one is not happy with what they see, they should explore other options.

One should request to take a tour around the premises to see the conditions under which the breeding occurs. A good premises looks clean and does not have any odors. The puppies and their parents should also be clean and well-fed. Any signs of malnutrition such as protruding rib cages should be given close attention. Signs of disease to look out for include lethargy, coughing, and runny eyes/nose among others.

The interaction between the breeder and the dogs should also be observed carefully. Dogs that are taken good care of should not shy away from the breeder or strangers. They should be friendly and outgoing with everybody. Good puppies do not appear withdrawn or too aggressive with littermates, people, or other pets.

One should ensure that the breeder provides documents related to the health of the parents of the puppies as well as the puppies themselves. They should also provide information regarding genetic diseases to which the breed is prone. When health screening is done, certificates are issued as proof. These certificates should be availed.
