Breeding Exotic Cats Nebraska For Pets

By Raymond Roberts

When considering purchasing or adopting a cat, it is often good to research a variety of breeds. For, like dogs, different breeds have traits that are specific to the line. If planning on adopting a large breed cat, those breeding exotic cats Nebraska can often provide a great deal of information on Bengals and Leopard cats.

Bengals are often popular because of tiger like size and appearance. While this is the case, there are many other reasons people desire to own this breed though most often it is because of their tender loving nature. At the same time, it is important to note that these cats need a great deal of space to roam, run and play.

With high energy personalities, it is important to realize that kittens and cats of this breed are going bounce around and knock things off shelves, etc. As such, it is recommended that individuals not leave anything of value in an area in which these kittens or cats will be playing on a regular basis.

Due to other factors, the breed is not as plentiful as others and can not generally be found at animal shelters or pet stores. One reason this is the case is that Bengal breeders are few and far between. As such, finding a reputable breeder can often be difficult. Other reasons locating an exotic cat can be difficult is due to local and State laws with regards to owning these and other exotic pets.

When lucky enough to find a credible breeder, it is important to know that there are two generations of Bengals. The first is that of the early generation, the second is that of the late generation. In most cases, first generation kittens and cats are going to be wilder than those of the second generation ones. While having little differences in appearance, there are often huge differences in personality.

When selecting a Bengal kitten, it is important to look for specific markings to assure one is acquiring a full breed early or late generation. In doing so, potential owners can look for the spotted or rose like markings along with background colors which tend to range between a golden hue, white, cream or light blue. When it comes background fur, blue and cream colored cats are often considered the most rare of the breed.

In most cases, the background fur will have a golden hue, soft white or walnut background. Although harder to find, there are also some rare kittens which have a tinge of a blue or cream colored background. In either case, it is good to research the different colors and markings to determine the most desirable based on whether the cat will be kept inside or outside the home. For, in some cases these cats can be mistaken for cougars, thus putting those with similar coloring at danger in areas which are heavily populated with mountain lions, lynxes and other wildcats.

When considering obtaining a kitten from a breeder in Nebraska, it is important to know local requirements. First, is that a kitten must be thirteen weeks of age before adoption and delivery can take place. While not a state law, it is a condition set by the International Cat Association. During this time, the breeder is required to nourish the kitten on solid food, provide litter training, de-worm and vaccinate in order to prepare the kitten for delivery.
