The chances of them contracting cancer is also lower compared to the Bernese Mountain dog.

Life in apartments is more suitable for the tiny and miniature versions of the breed. The standard kind, however, is more suited for living in a nice yard with ample space to run around. This breed generally does not demand excessive personal space. They are often not too destructive, so long as their needs for mental and physical stimulation are adequately satisfied.

They are known to be quite intelligent, just like the poodles, and thus, they can quickly learn good and bad habits as well. It is essential for you to keep up with training. It is always a good idea to expose them to early socialization with other dogs and humans, which will keep them well behaved whenever they meet other pets and new people.

Depending on their size, level of activity, and age, the amount of food that you will feed them varies. This means that the feeding patterns are very personalized. Standard dogs are good at feeding, meaning they will eat whatever you place for them to eat. As a result, you will have to be vigilant of what they eat, the amount, and their weight and at the same time, making ensuring physical exercise.

The coats of the breed look more like the Poodle or at times resembled a Bernese Mountain Dog, but they generally vary. They are more suitable for people with allergies to dander because of their wavy, curly coats that do not shed much. Others would have straighter coats, but their hypoallergenic is much less. The breed thrives in cold temperatures thanks to the thickness of the coating which equally protects them from the summer heat.
