A Reflective Dog Collar - Because You Care

By Adam Webster

Both outdoor and indoor pets will benefit from the safety offered by a reflective dog collar. A outdoor cat should definitely have a reflective collar on at all times. There is a lot of risk involved for outdoor pets but an indoor pet can be in more danger if they run out. Often, pet owners that have indoor pets do not consider that their animals could inadvertently escape. Without a collar this not only increases the risk of being hit but also of not being identified if the pet is lost. Make sure that even indoor pets have a collar with an identity tag on it.

Reflective collars let drivers know, ahead of time, that there is an animal in the road. It also will help if trying to locate a lost animal. Using a flashlight and trying to find a pet without a reflective collar is a lot more difficult.

With drivers being increasingly unsafe in their driving the chances of a pet being hit has increased. To prevent this type of accident try making the pet more visible to others. Even people that run at night know to wear bright clothing as well as reflective shoes. This is an easy way to give your pet a fighting chance.

There is hardly any price difference between the regular collar and a reflective one. Any price difference is worth the safety though. As a family member, your pet deserves it. The price is nothing compared to the safety of the pet.

There is a concern about a choking hazard. There are many collars that offer the break away feature. They also have reflective break away collars. These are especially useful for cat owners. Cats often tend to get into more harrowing situations than dogs because of their ability to climb trees. Dogs do also run this risk but they are more often able to escape the danger as opposed to their feline counterparts.

If you are a pet owner that walks their dog at night then a reflective collar on your dog also protects you. The more reflective gear that both you and your pet are wearing offers more visible warnings to drivers. Drivers with cell phones that are text messaging might not be paying attention.

If you are lucky enough to have a well lit neighborhood with sidewalks you may already feel safe enough. This might be a false sense of security. With so many pedestrian accidents occurring because of careless drivers text messaging it would be a good idea to give as many eye catching signals as possible.

Your pet might be uncomfortable with wearing a collar all of the time at first. After awhile they will become use to it. If it is a behavior that your pet is having to learn for the first time then try to ease them into it. Some training techniques would be comforting them after stopping them from trying to remove the reflective dog collar. Also try to remove the collar, and then put the collar back on them followed by a treat. This way the pet knows that this behavior is being rewarded for wearing the new collar. Your pet might feel a little resentment at first, but they do not know what a big favor that you are doing for them and their safety.
