Sit, Stay, Fetch My Beer - Why Early Canine Education Can Be So Rewarding, And How To Find A Trainer

By Jade Davidson

Getting your puppy trained earlier is best. You might want to consider letting your puppy go to a dog school. This is a great idea. The dog will learn that they will be handled all their life. They will also learn the basics of grooming too.

Aside form making grooming easier, your puppy will learn basic commands. Your dog will be able to communicate with you faster. I was driving one day and I saw a man opened his door, he totally forgot about his dog behind him, the dog just ran around and went around the neighborhood to greet his owner and the dog, because it was untrained went over to cross the street. Chances are if you train your puppy, they won't be that susceptible to accidents.

Looking for a puppy trainer.

There are some effective ways to find a good dog trainer. You can try looking online, search the yellow pages, etc...but, just like any other businesses, getting a referral is the best. If you notice a well trained dog at the park, then try to ask the owner. Bragging about your dog's tricks is very natural for everyone.

If the vets make the recommendation, then it is very likely to be someone who is really great at puppy training.

After you've gotten a good sized list of names and numbers, make some calls. First off find out where they train. Hopefully they have a private, enclosed yard and don't conduct their training someplace like a public park. If they don't ask about your immunization papers don't bother showing up, because if they didn't ask you, they aren't asking everyone and you don't want your puppy coming down with a contagious disease from another dog.

If you feel satisfied, then try to look at the actual class. You can leave your pooch at home for a while. If the pups are having fun and the teacher seems to be doing a great work with the animals, then you can finally decide if this class is for your puppy or not.

There is no bad way for a trainer to teach his pups. Some use food treats, some use clickers, these methods will depend on how the trainer wants the dogs to respond to him or her.
