Jack russell training isn't as hard as what others believe it to be. Even if this breed can be obstinate at times, several dog owners have effectively trained their pets using different training approaches. But undoubtedly, there are also owners who weren't able to achieve preferable results due to unresolved training issues.
The occurrence of dog training problems isn't a strange predicament. Issues such as your pet's short attention span, inability to ignore distraction, lousy communication between owner and pet, owner's lack of confidence, consistency and knowledge, inappropriate training location and the use of improper training methods are some of the problems a dog owner may experience during jack russell training.
But fret not since each problem has a remedy so long as you are determined enough to reach your goals of having a well-behaved dog. First step to address the problem is to understand your dog's personality. Jack russell terriers are extremely intelligent, athletic and fearless dogs thus they are more likely to get bore very easily and lose interest in training. To prevent boredom, training sessions should be kept short and interesting. Each session should not last more than 20 minutes and must not only tackle similar tricks again and again. If he is easily distracted, consider training him in quiet locations first. If he has perfected the lesson you're presently training him, add distractions one at a time and start training him in other areas including the living room, front lawn or in other areas of the house where he's likely to see other people, automobiles and animals.
Communication is one important factor to think about during jack russell training. Since dogs can't talk the way human does, they can only communicate through body gestures. It is then the owner's job to find out what each body language implies to ensure effective communication. A wagging tail and a tail pointing upward suggests exactly different meanings so is growling, barking, howling and other gestures. You can also determine a dog's emotions and physical condition through body language so if your dog is showing signs of loneliness or fear, better delay the training since dogs will never learn efficiently if they are not on their best of health.
The owner's temperament impacts the training too. He has to be confident, well-informed of what training method is effective or not and should be consistent in implementing effective strategies. If your dog doesn't see you as a confident master, he's more likely to assume that he is the leader of the pack therefore making it tough for you to manage him.
Jack russell training can be complicated at times but getting positive result isn't impossible. You just have to be aware of the problems that could occur along the way and ways on how to address such problems.
