How To Handle Pet Cremation Pre-Planning

By William Russell

Cremation is a popular choice for many pet owners when their dear pet passes away. Most cities have pet cremation facilities, as does Maryland. These companies will take care of all of the little details, such as picking up the pet's remains, ensuring that cremation is completed, and then returning the ashes to the owner in a box or urn. Owners may know that a pet is going to die, such as if the animal is sick or ill. Pet cremation pre-planning helps owners make certain decisions before the pet dies, so that they are not faced with difficult decisions during that stressful time.

Planning in advance how to handle your pet's remains relieves you and your family of making decisions at a very vulnerable time. This is important, because you do not want to make financial decisions when you are upset. Also, you might be tempted to spend much more than you should.

When planning ahead, you can choose what you want to do. You may wish to purchase a unique urn or crafted box for your pet's cremains. Special items can be ordered so they are ready when needed. Most companies will also offer memorial stones or markers, keepsake pictures, and plaques.

Rates are often locked in when purchasing these items in advance, which could save a ton of money in light of inflation rates. The earlier you plan, the more money you will save. Also, you can sometimes purchase niches in a pet cemetery in advance or even pay the money off well before your pet passes away.

It is even possible in certain areas for the cremains of both pets and their owners to be interred in adjacent niches or in the same niche. Consult with the company to determine if this is possible. You could then be laid to rest alongside your beloved pet.

Commonly, a company will also be able to create memorial keepsakes, such as nose prints or paw prints. This are often given to the owners as a remembrance. They can also be made into pendants. The company must know about this beforehand so that the print is taken before cremation.

Some families want to have a funeral or memorial service for their animal. This could include a special scattering of their pets ashes in a beloved place, such as in a park or on the beach. A pet cremation service will often assist the owner in planning a service, including poetry, music, perhaps a slide show of pictures of the animal. Done in advance, this part of the process will be much easier on the family.

Be sure to create special memories with your pet during their lives. Some of these you may want to include in the pet's memorial service. These remembrances also help grieving family members. A pet often lives a full, long life with their human companion. Once they are gone, grieving is important. If everything is already planned, the family can focus on grieving for the pet without being pressured into making expensive and difficult decisions. Your best deserves no less than the best.
