The cavachon is a hybrid of dog that is achieved by breeding Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise. As such, its size, temperament, and general look are derived from its two parents. As a designer dog, it was produced for the sole purpose of bringing out certain characteristic in the parents. Currently, most cavachons out there are first generation. First generations are attained by interbreeding Bichons and Cavaliers. Second generation cavachons are also available in the market. The second generation dogs are attained by breeding both cavachon parents.

When considering buying these dogs, it is important to understand that they are not purebred dogs. They are produced for the purpose of achieving puppies that are hypo-allergenic. Other goals for producing cavachons is to produce dogs that grow to a specific size and attain specific coat coloring. Cavachon dogs are not totally hypo-allergenic, but they are light shedders. How much they shed may also depend on how much their parents shed.

Cavachons are generally loving and sociable in nature. This makes many people to love them. They are also known for being very playful. They are among the best family dogs given their highly sociable temperament. The dogs are very safe for little kids due to their small size. These dogs find it delightful to play with small kids. Also, they co-exist well with other pets including other dogs.

The cavachon is a very intelligent dog. When it is taught new skills, it is able to grasp them easily. For example, when it is taught to use a pot, a few repetitions are enough. The dog usually barks a lot when it encounters new animals or people. For that reason, if one hears them barking, it is usually possible they have come across something or someone unfamiliar.

It is hard for a cavachon to maintain its attention for a long period of time. This makes it hard to rely on them to serve as watchdogs. In addition, their small size can hardly scare an intruder away. However, they are good company dogs with minimum maintenance requirements. They get most of their exercise requirements from playing with children and other pets.

In terms of health, cavachons are considered to be generally healthy dogs. They are not susceptible to most health problems that other dogs suffer from. To be sure about the future health of a puppy before buying, one should have the parentage of the dog investigated. One should ask for the health certificate of the parents of the puppy before buying.

A person needs to regularly take the dog for medical checkups so as to make sure that they are in proper health. Health problems can also be avoided by offering sufficient exercise.Some health conditions affecting both the Cavalier and the Bichon Frise can also be passed down to a cavachon and one should be prepared for this possibility.
