About Jack Russell Breeders In California

By Karina Frost

If you live in an apartment, but prefer strong and active, playful dogs, this might be a perfect pet for you. There are several Jack Russell breeders in California who breed high quality dog lines. You will find more info, as well as adorable pictures of their available puppies on their web pages. But first, here are some things you might want to know about this lovely little breed.

This strong minded small dog is absolutely fearless and always full of energy. Three different types are officially recognized, English, Irish and American. English and Irish types belong to one separate breed, and Irish type is sometimes called Shorty, thanks to his shorter legs. American type is called Parson Russell. It has longer legs and belongs to one separate breed today.

Lovely and affectionate, Russell terriers are mostly white, with black, brown or tan markings. Brindle markings are really rare, but may occur. Their hair is short and smooth, rough or broken coated and really easy to maintain. Show dogs have to be professionally groomed. Although most of them enjoy having a bath, you shouldn't bathe them unless it is necessary.

Although small, under fifteen inches of height, these lovely little things are full of energy and muscular. They usually weigh up to eighteen pounds. They live relatively long, over fifteen years, and are generally healthy. They can inherit certain eye diseases, and sometimes they might have problems with their ears as well. Some dogs might be prone to mast cell tumors, and some might have problems with their hip joints.

All terriers are highly active dogs. They require daily brisk walks and a large portion of exercise to spend their immense energy. Even if you live in a house and have a large yard for your dog to play, it is still advisable to take him for a walk at least once a day. It will certainly make your life easier. If you need to leave your dog alone in the house for some time, make sure to take him for a walk before you leave.

Russell is very smart, and can learn all sorts of things, including complicated tricks. Easy trainable and clever, he needs a strong leadership very early. You need to become his pack leader, if you don't want him to become yours. He is strong minded and you have to be consistent. You need to set the rules and establish some limitations. This way you won't have any problems with your dog.

Terrier can be stubborn, obsessive barker and even aggressive if you don't train him well. This dog possesses enormous amount of energy to spend, and a mind of his own. He usually has very strong characters and needs a strong pack leader. If you aren't prepared for this, maybe you should choose another breed, more suitable for your living style.

All in all, Jack Russell terriers are just irresistible. They have great characters, they are full of energy and make really good family pets. Sometimes they might have issues with other small animals, especially cats. Hunters by nature, they shouldn't be trusted with chicken, hamsters and similar animals. But they will certainly be great friends to your children.
