High Quality Horse Boarding Available

By Janine Hughes

Owning horses is a dream come true for many people. For many this has been a dream since childhood. Finally being in a position to afford their first horse is a really special moment. It is important to look around at some barns first to allow time to select just the right facility. There is a significant range of services available in each area and the costs also vary considerably.

The standards at big boarding facilities can vary tremendously. Owners must be willing to take plenty of time when they are looking for horse boarding available in their area. After all the well being of their animals will depend on their choices. Things to look out for are high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, well trained staff and satisfied owners.

There are a wide range of facilities available, ranging from the most basic to some very fancy barns that have all the top of the line extras. This will include an indoor riding arena for winter or wet weather, wash stalls and heated areas to dry the animals in cold weather. Most show barns have to provide these features as the horses are going to be worked whatever the weather.

Horses must aways have access to clean, fresh water. Most bigger barns use automatic water systems to each stall. However a smaller barn may still rely on filling buckets several times each day. Both of these systems work as long as the barn staff stay vigilant and always keep a close eye on each and every horse to ensure that they are drinking enough.

The rates for boarding really depend on the level of care provided. Many people have found that do it yourself barns offer a very affordable package. The facility provides the stalls and turn out, but the owners do all the work. This is a great compromise for those who really want to own horses, but do not have enough space at home and are working on a tight budget.

Many new barns today are specially built to make life as easy as possible for both animals and owners. The typically construction is a row of stalls on either side of a wide central aisle. The aisle is used for tying up the horses while they are being groomed or while the stalls are being cleaned. It also allows the horses to see each other but they are not close enough to bite each other.

A good barn will also help the owners to work with a young or problem horse. Many people like to take on an animal that is young and experienced as it presents a challenge. However, without the right help and support this can often go wrong. Being surrounded by knowledgeable equestrians is the best way to achieve a positive outcome for both horses and riders.

No matter what they owners think the single most important factor is the horses. Owners will know right away if their horses are happy. Horses have their own distinct personalities, just like people. An animal who is not happy will typically loose weight and experience behavior problems. Any signs of these issues should be addressed quickly.
