Information On Labrador Retriever Breeder

By Jerry Miller

Dog breeding has become a lucrative business that has attracted many people even those without any idea of what dog breeding is all about. That has made it hard for people to choose the right breeders, especially those who have no idea of how to differentiate good breeders from bad ones. Finding Labrador retriever breeder can be a difficult task, but with the tips in this article, it can be an easy one.

Visiting dog shows has come out as one of the best ways of finding good breeders. Such shows usually carry many breeders of different calibers. The shows also allow buyers access to AKC marketplace. Besides dog shows, one can also find useful information from parent clubs of the breed they are interested in. It is easy to locate parents clubs in the US using American Kennel Club website.

Some breeders only engage in the activity of breeding dogs as a part time job. Usually they have another full-time job that they do. Such breeders may not conform to the expectations most people may be having. To avoid such let-downs, one should be selective in their choice. One should only settle for someone who is knowledgeable and who has the right experience in this field.

Before making a choice of a breeder to make a purchase from, it is advisable to visit their home or the facility where they do the breeding from. One should request to see at least of the parents of the puppies they are about to buy. One can determine the kind of appearance and temperament the puppy will have when it is grown by looking at the parents. If the parent is not so pleasing, one should opt for another puppy with better parents.

When visiting, it is good to look at the facility carefully. Its condition must be good with the floors, walls, and other surfaces appearing clean. It should be odorless and tidy. Puppies an do other dogs should be friendly, well fed, clean, and active. Signs or illness and malnutrition should be watched with care. Ill puppies will have runny nose and eyes lethargy, cough, and sore skin. Malnutrition is indicated by rib cages that protrude.

One should also observe how the breeder interacts with the puppies and parents. The individual should show genuine care for their animals. Puppies that appear to shy away from the breeder may be indicative of improper handling. One should buy a puppy that appears jovial to meet strangers and one that does not withdraw away from littermates and people.

It is a good idea to establish a good rapport with the breeder to learn more about the animals. One should feel comfortable calling the individual at any time when the dog has a problem after it is taken home. A responsible breeder will require the buyer to sign a contract that allows them to reclaim the dog if one cannot provide good care.

Puppies should not be taken while they are still very young. They need to be allowed to attain a minimum of twelve weeks of age. They need time to socialize and bond with their mothers and littermates before being taken away. This promotes good growth and well-being.
