Pond Issues That You Would Encounter

By Roland Stockwell

It is always nice to have a pond somewhere outside your home. Apparently, this particular feature can make your exterior beautiful. Another benefit is that the water in the pond is a factor in make the place cooler. But while it does have some advantages, you also need to make sure to comply with some responsibilities. It is very important that you take good care of the pond and prevent some organisms from growing without control, which may lead to more problems in terms of maintenance.

Knowing what particular organisms that you should deal with is a very important concern because it could lead to proper maintenance steps. Algae, especially the filamentous and planktonic types are the ones that you need to control. It is the filamentous algae that would give you the worse problems though. While planktonic algae may not be very serious it could still become a headache unless you restrain its growth too. These would surely destroy the appearance of the pond. These may also lead to a fish kill.

A liquid copper algaecide is your best friend in the fight against algae overgrowth. Captain is one of the brands that you should try because of its effectiveness. This solution has the ability to fight all types of algae overgrowth. To apply this to your pond, simply drop about a gallon of the solution per surface acre. However, if you want to make sure that the application is really effective, you may add another gallon to the same amount of water. As much as possible, you should not scrimp on this.

When these are just a few, cattails are enough to make a pond look more realistic. After all such plants are normal sights in countryside ponds. However, when these also sprout in different areas excessively, the pond would no longer be as beautiful. You need to control its growth. To do this, you should use a glyphosate-based systemic herbicide, such as AquaSpherePRO. Such herbicide could effectively control the growth of cattails and make your pond look neater as a result.

There is no doubt that plants could make a pond look more beautiful. But then if these grow wildly then the purpose would no longer be achieved. This is why you may need to control plant growth. You should learn how to restrain the growth of watermeal, bladderwort, azolla, and duckweed and make the pond look nice always. Otherwise, your lawn would end up looking like a scene from the apocalypse.

You may also use Sonar AS for treating your pond in the most effective way. With a solution like this, it is possible that you could stop aquatic weeds from growing too much. You should always remember that your pond is like a decoration. Making it beautiful is therefore a must. Because of this, proper maintenance is a necessity. Controlling the growth of plants is part of this. Getting the help of herbicides and algaecides is important.
