The Egyptian cat is a breed of cats. The nation of Egypt in Africa is where the origin of the cat is traced. Pharaoh cat is another name of the feline. The Egyptian mau appears like a miniature jungle cat because of the way its body is built. Its coat is spotted while the eyes are green and large in size. They are also centrally positioned on the face.

As of the year 2014, the cat was one of the most popular breeds of cats in the world. It held the 20th position in terms of popularity according to various studies. In the United States, most of the cats can be traced back to the kittens that were bred by the Russian Princes in New York. The princess played a huge role in making the breed popular in the country.

The feline is medium-sized with mature females attaining a weight range of between 6 to 10 pounds. The males are larger in size and heavier compared to the females. The usual weight of an adult male can range from 10 to 14 pounds. For the heads, they are triangular in shape and proportional to the other parts of the body. The ears can assume a number of positions but in most cases are straight on the head.

The coat is moderate in length and they shade moderately as well. This is one of the traits that make the breed very preferable to some people. It reduces instances of allergic reactions to owners who have such problems. These cats are available in a wide assortment of colors. Some of the most common colors include smoke, silver, black, and blue.

These cats need little maintenance. This is because their coat is short and the shading of their hair is not as much as in other species. In order to keep their coat in proper shape, cleaning must be done occasionally. Grooming is essential because it stimulates circulation, avoids matting, and removes plucked hair. It is sufficient to groom it weekly. An expert pet cleaner can be hired to do the work in a professional way every once in a while.

In comparison to other breeds, Egyptians are not challenged by many health complications. As such, they suit owners who are inexperienced in keeping cats. One is advised to ensure the kitten is tested for any genetic health condition prior to making a purchase. For each kitten one acquires a health certificate should accompany it.

This breed is very friendly to people, other pets, and animals. It forms strong bonds with their owners and enjoy playing with little kids as well. However, for safety reasons, kids younger than 6 years should not be left to play with the cat or any other pet for that matter. The breed also exhibits a high level of intelligence.

Finally, this breed has moderate vocalization, as they are known to vocalize only in presence of some stimuli. One should thus eliminate any stimuli that may cause vocalization if the behavior is not needed. The cat vocalizes less when it is contented and warm. Human company is inevitable for the wellness of the cat because it is a very social animal.
