Almost everyone in the world wants a pet, and a fair majority of these people want to be unique and have a pet companion that is far from the mainstream choices of cats and dogs. Some have taken to getting some exotic animals such as pigs and goats for pets and companions. Some have also taken to getting Nigerian Dwarf Goats Santa Cruz county. If you have some interest in getting these goats then you should finish off these articles first.

These goats are primarily raised for milk production due to the high quality of milk that they produce that has an even larger amount of butterfat than cow milk or any other milk for that matter. Butterfat, which is the most valuable ingredient in milk, is the main building block for butter and ice cream products.

If being kept for milk production, the females have to be in a lactating stage. This means that thy must basically be always pregnant. As such, these goats' prime years for mating are when they are one years old to seven years old for the females. Once they get to eight years of age, they should be prevented from mating further as it gets harder for them to give birth once they are old.

Apart from being kept for milk production, these goats can also be kept as pets due to their gentle demeanor and playful personalities, as well as even dispositions. They are extremely good with children and are also used as therapy for people in nursing homes and also old age hospices.

It is not much of a problem to feed these animals once they are acquired for they are quite easy to feed. They love to chew on anything from small trees and bushes all the way up to weeds and grass. They can also be fed pellets like many owners do also, but care should be taken that overfeeding does not take place or they will get quite unhealthy.

Their small size should not fool anyone into thinking that they need small spaces to live in. They still do require some space to romp around in since they can get quite rambunctious at times. The space they are kept in should have some small stumps and rocks for them to climb on and jump on for their fun. As regards making them co habit with other farm animals like cattle and horses and such, it will prove to be no problem at all.

If you have finally decided on getting this goat as a pet or milk producer, do keep in mind that they do not do good living alone. They must be procured in pairs or groups of upwards of three goats or more since they are basically herd animals, and they must always feel that they do live in a herd.

Thus this article has shown you some considerations when getting these animals either for companionship or production purposes. There are of course other factors that you should consider also like health and upkeep that will help you become a better owner. Always get as much information before making a final commitment as a pet owner.
