Facts About Cavachon Puppies And Cavachon Breeders

By Helga Stokes

Designer breeds use purebred parents from unrelated bloodlines to increase hybrid vigor. Cavachon breeders strive to produce puppies with the best health and personality traits from the parents, without the health problems common in purebred dogs. The result of cross breeding a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise, is a teddy bear like fur ball with a great personality. Cavachons can be registered with the American Canine Hybrid Club.

The first pairing was in 1996 but there's already a Cavachon Club of America. Expect this little dog to be energetic and playful, but not restless or destructive. They crave and need attention and companionship. They can be a variety of colors. Most common are white with black or black and tan markings, apricot and white, and all white. Hair is long, wavy, soft and silky. Full grown Cavachons weigh 8-20 pounds.

This lovable little dog just wants to be near his people. He'll follow his family from room to room, always on the look out for a lap to sit on. When weather is bad, Cavachons enjoy indoor games as much as they love outings. Their modest energy needs makes this a perfect dog for condo and apartment dwellers. Even travelers in recreational vehicles will find this little 8-20 pound dog an excellent companion. They're not high strung. They don't bark a lot. They're easy to train, sociable with strangers, good with kids, good with other pets including the family cat.

A designer dog is not just a fancy word for a mutt. The parents are AKC registered purebred dogs with a documented family tree. Controlled breeding to create desired traits is the genesis of all of today's purebreds. After a while, the limited bloodlines available tend to inbreed genetic problems and diseases. Careful crossbreeding restores hybrid vigor producing a sturdier pet.

Many people with allergies are able to own and enjoy a Cavachon. They're low to non-shedding with long silky and wavy hair. This breed usually enjoys grooming if introduced to brushing and hair care while still a puppy. As the puppy matures, the hair is thicker and longer and matting can be a problem. Their hair can be clipped into a short, stylish, cute, and easy to care for hairdo.

Studies have found crossbreeds to have an advantage in longevity. Good health still requires healthy parents. Find Cavachon breeders who research parents and do health testing. Most breeders sell puppies with a health guarantee and puppy return policy. Be sure you know what vaccinations have been given and what is needed. Ask if the puppies have been checked by a vet and ask for a health certificate.

To get a quality pet, buy from a breeder who has raised the puppies in the home, the beginning of the socialization process. When researching Cavachon breeders ask how long they have been breeding, and how much experience they have with this breed. Visit and meet the parent dogs if at all possible. Ask if spaying and/or neutering is a requirement of the sale.

Cavachon breeders strive to find forever homes for their precious little puppies. They ask questions of potential buyers to be sure they have a lifestyle that's suitable for this attention loving little dog. They'll ask about lifestyle, family, and other pets. They can offer tips for integrating your new puppy into your family and lifestyle.
