How Dog Aggression Training Can Be Useful

By Lila Berger

Bringing home a pet can be the most enriching experience for any animal loving family. Not only does it bring about a new form of joy, but also adds another family member to the household. However, not all breeds of dogs are considered friendly and the kinds to mingle easily with children. Moreover, it is how a dog is trained that finally determines his or her behavior. This is the reason that dog aggression training is so vital.

It is commonly believed that certain breeds are aggressive by nature. These are Doberman, Rottweilers, Alsatians, and certain types of mastiffs. People tend to believe that these breeds, among certain others, are ferocious by nature.

Contrary to popular belief, doggies actually grow up to take on the characteristics they are taught to, rather than any of their assumed inherited ones. The tutoring they receive in their formative period of life pretty much signifies what their behavior is likely to be. Kept chained and treated unkindly, dogs can turn into ferocious creatures easily. Loved, cared for, and treated like family members, they can be the most docile and loving animals you would have ever seen.

In exemplifying the traits a pooch is likely to inculcate, a subtle reflection also falls on the owner or family. If you feel these traits are towards the unruly side, begin training the creature immediately.

Now, if you have been a pet lover all your life, and trained and taken care of numerous doggies in your growing up years, you would not even require outside help to accomplish this task. It would come naturally to you. You can teach your pet friend to heel, sit, roll, walk and do anything else you feel is necessary for them to learn.

Alternatively, you could hire the services of a professional to discipline and tutor your four legged family member. This works best if you are not confident enough to train all by yourself. It is also the better way of doing it, since the training is then likely to be professional too.

Trainers come into the picture when owners themselves do not feel equipped to teach their pets commands, tricks and friendly behavior. It is essential to commence this training within the first four months of the life of the animal, so that it becomes ingrained.

There are also cases when an adult dog is adopted and comes with an existing aggressive nature. In such cases, it becomes even more crucial to bring in the trainer as early as possible. Left on his or her own, this mutt could feel insecure and threatened in a new environment. This would lead to intrusive actions and attitude, which are likely to scare people away.

The reason dog aggression training is so important becomes clear when you understand how your doggy needs to be treated and cared for. It is not only good for the family who he or she lives with that he is disciplined, but for the animal too. This way, he or she will live a happier and healthier life where the relationship with the humans around is a mutually compatible one.
