Many Animal Lovers Believe In Pet Reincarnation

By Dawn Williams

Followers of the Hindu religion worship cows and allow them to roam free in towns and countrysides. Ancient Egyptians view cats as royal. To those people pet reincarnation real. To some, animals are only a source of food and have no soul.

African people have a belief in animal reincarnation. They do not think death is the end for people or animals. It is their belief that when someone dies they continue to live in an invisible space right here on earth. At some point they are reborn.

The ancient Egyptians prepared for the next life by constructing pyramids filled with all the necessities to live that next life. Buddhists have a concept of soul that has people returning to earth in a process called rebirth.

In the Zulu tribe in Africa the belief is that a soul is born for the first time in the body of one of the lower animals. After each death, that soul moves up the line until the rebirth is into a human body. After the first human incarnation, more will follow.

In Hinduism and Buddhism there is karmic rebirth. Everything a person does is noted in a process called karma. If a person is good at the time of death, he is born into the next life as someone good. If a person is bad, he is born into the next life in animal form.

A pet dog or cat inspires love in its owner. People are devoted to pets almost as much a children. There are pet loss support groups for owners who lose a dog or cat. Some of the members tell about a pet they believe to be reborn after a previous pet died.

The Inuit people have the belief that everyone and every animal has a soul. In earlier times the hunters would kill an animal for food and then perform a ritual to send the soul into the next incarnation. They do not think an animal is ever reborn as a person, but, rather always is born another animal.

To a Native American, animals have spirits that are divine life sources. They are a part of the great Creator. The animal spirit moves in a circle of life, being reborn again and again. The tribes believe that a prayer must be offered for the soul of an animal when it is killed.

Men and dogs grow attached to each other in a special way. A dog loves his owner and never judges him. If a loved dog could be returned, the owner would be happy. There are more people in the world who believe in reincarnation and subsequent lives than do not.

Pet reincarnation is no less a possibility than human reincarnation. Every culture has its own set of beliefs. If it comforts the pet owner who has lost their dog or cat, why scoff at it. It is not something anyone can either prove or disprove and a great many people believe that it is real.
