Ways You Can Make Your New Mini Husky Settle In Quickly And Easily

By Leslie Ball

If you have decided to add a new dog to your family, you will want to make sure they settle in as quickly and easily as possible. While every mini husky or dog is different, here are a few suggestions and methods that you can use to make sure that your new bundle of fluff will be happy and healthy in its new home.

One thing you need to learn is about the breed itself. Many people make the mistake of thinking that because these dogs are smaller than Siberian or Alaskan huskies that they need less care or exercise. This is a mistake. In fact, these diminutive canines need just as much exercise and attention as their full-size counterparts.

The problem with these dogs is that when they do not get regular chances to burn off energy, they can end up becoming hyper and anxious. This can lead to other negative actions and behaviors. You may want to consider choosing a home or apartment where there is access to a fenced yard so that your new pup can roam and burn off steam.

Any new puppy will often be anxious when it is first introduced to a home. Often, if they are young, they will whine or cry excessively. If this is the case with your puppy and you have nothing that smells like the mother or other puppies, you may want to think about using a pheromone product that can relax your dog.

Be prepared for chewing. Puppies will often try to explore and discover things with their mouths. This, along with pressure in their gums from emerging teeth, causes them to want to put as many different objects in their mouths as possible. Making sure you have appropriate items on hand such as bones and chew rings will help keep your puppy happy and out of trouble.

You also want to make sure that you have a few basic care items on hand besides toys. It can be great fun to go shopping for a new dog, whether or not it is full grown when you bring it home. Some of the basics that you may want to consider are a crate or pen, where you can put the dog when you cannot supervise it directly, bowls for food and water, toys that it can play with and grooming tools.

Miniature huskies do not need much grooming. That being said, they still have thick coats that do shed. In order to prevent tangling, you may want to think about getting some different brushes. If you are not sure which to get, any reputable pet store should be able to direct you to the right tools. You should also think about getting dog nail clippers.

The last thing to remember is to relax and enjoy your new puppy. Often, there will be a stretch of time where the puppy may seem anxious or uncomfortable in its new home. By providing comfort, encouragement, and rewards for good behavior, you can help your pup grow into a wonderful and well-adjusted canine companion.
