For The Best Labradoodle Chicago Is Worth A Visit

By James Reynolds

A labradoodle is a breed of dog obtained by cross breeding a poodle and a Labrador retriever. The poodle used in the crossbreeding exercise may be a toy, miniature or standard. The term was first coined in 1955 but only became popular in 1988. The popularity of the breed increased in 1988 following its use as a hypoallergenic guide dog. When in need of a labradoodle Chicago is the best place to consider visiting.

The credit for developing these species of dogs is often given to Wally Conron. Conron crossbred a poodle and a Labrador retriever to produce this species. Conron aimed to combine the low-shedding coat in poodles and gentleness and trainability of retrievers in a single dog. Low-shedding coat proved to be useful to people with allergies. The litter that resulted had all the qualities that Conron wanted.

Labradoodles resulted from crossbreeding two different breeds of dogs, which makes them not a breed on their own. Instead, they are crossbreed. As result, the puppies they give birth to often lack consistency in their characteristics. Even though there are certain common traits, there is often uncertainty in their behavioral characteristics and appearance. Therefore, their hair ranges from soft to wiry and may be curly, wavy, or straight.

The coat is usually named according to the nature of the hair. Coats that have curly, wavy, or straight hair are called a wool, fleece, or hair coats in that order. The coat sheds but to a lower extent and the coat usually exhibit less dog odor than in the Labrador retriever. This is one of the major characteristics in this crossbreed that make many people to like it.

The temperament of the labradoodle is similar to that of the two parents. They show affection to family members and kids and remain energetic all the time. They are excellent swimmers and high affinity for water. Their level of intelligence is very high. They are among the most intelligent dog breeds in the world as a result of the high intelligence level of their original parents. They are highly trainable and eager leaners.

There is a debate among breeders as to whether the species should be made into a breed, but there is no consensus over the issue at the moment. Breeding is commonly done to the F1 hybrid but some breeders breed up to the F2 hybrid. Breeders who breed up to the F2 hybrid or other levels do so to achieve genetic diversity. This is aimed at achieving a new breed.

This crossbreed comes in many different colors. Some of the major coat colors include parchment, red, chalk, silver, gold, cream, parti, and chocolate. Sizes vary, which has led to the categorization of the crossbreed into three major types, that is, toy, miniature, and standard.

The health issues that affect the parents are also very common in labradoodles. For example, hip dysplasia is common in the labradoodles because it is also common in the Labrador retriever. Eye problems are other common problems. Progressive retinal atrophy is an inherited disease from parents. Specialist radiography is usually used to check for hip dysplasia. Regular eye examinations should be done to determine presence of eye conditions.
