Tips For Raising Exotic Shorthair Kittens

By Andrew Brown

Going home to an empty house can be depressing, and even if you are only home for a few hours, most of us want to feel loved and missed. If you live alone, this can be easily done by getting a pet. The animal of choice will depend on your personal preferences but if you are considering a feline get exotic shorthair kittens. Taking care of young animals requires dedication, and doing the following things will ensure you are off to a good start.

Most people have heard the horrific stories of individuals who mistreat animals, just so that they can make money from their offspring. Animals brought up at animal mills might have internal parasites or undetected genetic issues. To avoid these problems go to an animal shelter. Here, you will get a healthy animal desperately in need of a home.

Exotic shorthair cats are a crossbreed between Persians and American shorthairs. Therefore, the animal you select should have the traits of a crossbreed. Their fur will be denser than that of a Persian, its ears and eyes will be close together, and the animals will grow stocky as they mature. In case you cannot identify this breed on your own, get an expert to give you their opinion.

Once you get the kitten take it to a vet. This person will examine it to see whether it is in good health and in case there are shots to be administered they will do this. Every breed of animals has a particular set of ailments associated with them. With exotic shorthairs, you will most likely have problems with their eyes and nose and conditions related to their bones.

Unless you are taking an orphaned pet, it is not wise to separate a very young cat from its mother. This will simply be cruel, and you will have to do a lot more to ensure that it grows healthily. This is another reason why it is not advisable to get your pets from pet stores or breeders. Most of these people will not consider the well-being of the kitten.

Getting a kitten should be taken seriously, and you will, therefore, need to go shopping. Feeding bowls and chew toys will be part of the list along with pet food. Ensure that the food is appropriate for the little animals and stay away from toys with small movable parts. Additionally, you might have to rearrange your house moving most things to higher shelves.

Many people regularly wash their dogs but not the cats. However, you need to help your kitten groom. Brushing it will remove loose fur and prevent the accumulation of fur balls in its stomach, even though it will lick itself clean. Additionally, due to the proximity of the eyes and nose in exotic shorthairs, and the presence of folds on its face, you need to wipe them regularly to prevent an accumulation of dirt.

These breed of felines is very docile, while still being playful all the way to adulthood. They, therefore, make good companions for both adults and children. However, they are not suitable for people allergic to fur.
