It is imperative to know some features of the breed so that you know what to expect. If you have selected a dachshund puppy for sale, below is a list of factors to consider before buying the dog.

The first thing is to decide whether you want a male or female dachshund pup. This will depend on your preference. There are people who love female dogs while others prefer male dogs. Therefore, decide on the gender you want so that you can start looking for this strain of a puppy. If gender does not matter to you, you can buy any of the pups.

The color and length or type of the coat is another crucial consideration. Ensure that you have selected the color you want. Generally, the animals are available in different colors that include tan/chocolate, red, brindle, dapple, black and tan, silver dapple, etc. These colors are spread in the animals from the smooth-haired ones to the long and wire-haired animals. You, therefore, need to select the type and color of the hair.

The health of these animals is also a critical thing to think about. Normally, every breed has its strengths and risk factors. This strain of dog is very healthy. If it is fed well, healthily with a balanced diet and exercise regularly, the dog can stay for long without falling ill. The animal can even live for more than twelve years so long as it is well taken care of.

In addition to the health of the animal, the temperament is also a critical thing to check. No one would like to have a dull and irritable dog. This animal is thus active, social and outgoing. It is very bold and lively. It is also very courageous to the point of being harsh. The animal is loyal and versatile as well. Nevertheless, larger dogs intimidate it, but this can be overcome with proper socialization.

Another factor to consider is whether you can afford the animal. This animal tends to be quite expensive. Hence, you should be ready to pay for it and also cater for all it needs. Besides buying the pup, there are several other things like food and medication that you should take care of.

Once you are sure that this is the animal you want to buy and you have enough money, it is time to look for a breeder. This is one of the most challenging steps, but if you know what you want, you will find a good breeder. Know what to check in a professional breeder.

Once you have paid for the animal, ensure that you have been given all the relevant paperwork. This includes a contract of sale or a receipt, written feeding advice, written vaccination advice, pedigree certification, and all relevant health copies. With these documents and your pup, you can now start a new life with the animal.
