A Brief Outine Of Training Attack Dogs

By Heinz Kaufmann

Robust and powerful dogs called German Shepherd was first bred in Germany. They were originally used as a farm buddy, used in driving cattle.

However, its characteristic traits of strength and obedience were noticed by the law enforcement agencies. It was soon inducted into the police force to provide personal security to patrolling officers. They proved to be very useful, particularly at night time, and made good companions for the police officers.

Their unwarranted courage was also identified by law enforcers which then brought these dogs to the police forces of countries other than Germany including France, Austria and Hungary. Governments spent a lot on the training and breeding of these types due to their utility.

When trained, German Shepherds are able to safeguard certain individuals. Aside from this, they are also loyal and get on with humans well. With proper training, they are also used as attack dogs and with some technique like the bark and hold, they instill fear on people and are used to regain public order. But contrary to this, German Shepherds are really gentle dogs and are unaggressive.

But, when they become aware of a threat they will become very protective of their companion. This quality has been audaciously cultivated amongst the pure bloodlines and has been retained particularly for guard dogs and police dogs.

Cop dogs, as well as being recruited to duty as law enforcers, receive their own badges. Given that they are killed while doing their job, these cop dogs are also provided an honorable funeral. They are also protected and well taken care of. Those in tough operations are provided proper suits such as Kevlar vests while old or sick ones are made to stop working. It is also considered a crime to kill or even hurt police dogs.

The German Army during the World Wars used these dogs cruelly. American soldiers were so captivated by the German Shepherd's abilities. A lot of them brought back to America stories about these fierce attack dogs. This event made German Shepherd famous and esteemed as a great canine. They were later used as personal guards outside Germany. The first German Shepherd to be taken out of Germany after World War I is Rin Tin Tin.

German Shepherds has an excellent olfactory capacity. Due to this innate quality, they were used as trackers of missing military men during the war. They were great elements of search and rescue teams and were used to roam and guard around base camps.

German Shepherds using their excellent hearing and smelling skills would caution patrol personnel for an approaching threat. Due to the risk they are in when doing their duties as guard dogs, these dogs are often made to wear Kevlar suits.
