In line with the recent rising focus of the world, which is to encourage initiatives to support conservation and species recovery, Maka Foundation is aptly founded. Its aims are along the lines of the improvement of habitats that have degraded due to a myriad of reasons, as well as the consolidation of the habitats.
An area identified as the most effective means to spread the word of awareness and appreciation amongst the public regarding environmental issues is education. Hence, Maka Foundation invests its time in this endeavour by financing some of the educational campaigns organised. Members of the public (including our tribal associates) who have acquired the appropriate level of understanding of the matter, are asked to join us spread the word even further.
One of the projects we have supported in the past was at the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation in North America. For instance, a program to reintroduce black footed ferrets to tribal lands was carried out in 2005. The program first focused on breeding efforts of the first generation of ferrets born in the wild.
Breeding was the first part of the program, whereas the second part was a long term one, focusing on building up a sustainable ecosystem for the ferrets. It was hoped that the survival rate of the species would be equivalent to the typical rate found amongst populations of the same species out there.
Apart from black footed ferrets, the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation has also been successful in reintroducing other wild lives like wild turkey, elk, and bison. To add, work on preservation of native plants, known very much to hold the secrets of medicinal healing promises, is also carried out.
In addition, there are a number of programs that fulfil various other environmentally related concerns. Some of the programs have just started, while some are way in the process, and others are either completed or near completion.
Eco-tourism seems to be an emerging area worth looking into, because it brings about a whole range of benefits in the cause. For starters, eco-travellers are those willing to spend their money not just on their travelling expenses, but on the many eco-related projects they would encounter. Each eco-traveller would become a spokesperson for our cause, hence speeding up our awareness efforts.
If you want to support species recovery programs, we will be happy to provide the platform upon which this noble cause can be carried out. Please get in touch with us, and we will show you the way.
