Do You Lay In Bed Wide Awake

By Megan Jocy

Do you have problems both falling and staying asleep each night? Don't let this upset you. This problem is widespread. People all over the world have trouble sleeping. You should realize that help is available in many forms. There's no reason you should have to walk around tired every day. You can apply many methods that will improve the quality of your sleep. In this article we will teach you a few of them.

To increase the likelihood that you will sleep through the night, you need to have a regular routine that you follow every night at the same time. Before you go to bed there are numerous things that must be done, so this means to do those things in the same order, and at the same time each evening. The reason for washing your face at the same time every night is for training your body, and the same goes for brushing your teeth, changing into PJs, and others all being done in the same order. Sleeping will eventually be associated with all of these activities, once the body gets used to them. When this starts to happen, you won't even need to look at a clock, your body will just get tired and be ready for sleep. The whole point of having the routine is to get the body and brain to associate sleeping with the routine, in order to make the body tire when the routine is done.

Drink herbal tea in the evening. Any tea that's not caffeinated and has herbs that promote relaxation is good -chamomile tea, for instance. Valerian tea can also be very effective, and any book on herbalism will tell you that this is one of the best remedies for insomnia. Some brands, like Celestial Seasonings, also make teas that are specifically formulated to help induce sleep. If you want teabags, try Sleepytime tea by Celestial Seasonings; otherwise, look for a good herbal blend online or at a specialty store and brew the tea yourself. Many kinds of herbal tea are effective for getting your mind and body into a relaxed mode where you can more easily fall asleep.

The best way to get good sleep is to have the room dark. It seems to be a no brainer that it would be hard to sleep in a room filled with light, but there are surprisingly many people who live with this frustration. Neither light nor noise will matter during those times when you are really tired. If you are having troubles sleeping, however, making the room as dark as possible will send the signal to your brain that it is night-time and time to sleep. To help shift workers fall asleep easier when they get home after a shift, blackout curtains will make their room dark even though the sun is shining.

If you need to increase the likelihood of your falling asleep, there are many things that you can try. Taking medication should be the last resort option for sleeping, after trying such things as making the room dark or colder, and also having a bedtime routine. To achieve sleeping through the night is only a matter of finding the right way. You just need to figure out the things that work best for you.
