The Importance Of Homemade Dog Treats

By Lucile Jacobs

More and more dogs are suffering from a variety of allergies. Vets have been finding that very often, it is the dog foods and treats that are too blame. Much of the time there are a lot of ingredients in here that are not good for the dog or are even just fillers. This is way it is a good idea to make your own homemade dog treats.

Dogs will start to suffer from skin allergies and you can tell this by the way they are acting and just by looking at their coat. They will also start to behave with a lot less energy. This comes down to what they are eating. Often we think we are rewarding them, but in fact, we are just causing their body more harm than good.

It is the fillers and unnatural ingredients that manufacturers are putting into their products. Most of the time, you are more than likely to find fillers in these treats. You are also not able to find many vitamins or minerals that are part of the package.

Treats like these are not difficult to make. Most people believe that it is not that easy to achieve, but you will really surprise yourself. You just need a basic cookie recipe, which you can later experiment with, adding in various flavors. You may want to try adding in certain fruits and vegetables for something really healthy.

Your kids will also want to get involved into a project like this. A family pet does so much for a family, bringing joy in so many different ways, and this is a chance of giving something back to him or her. The best thing is that most of these are freezable, but make sure you choose your recipes because sometimes the instructions vary. By freezing them, you will always have something in stock.

There are other things you can start off with, if you would prefer not to make cookies. You can simply cut up a piece of chicken and have the strips ready. Fruit, vegetables and peanuts are just as good and they will do the world of good. You can either give this to your dog just as they are or you can mix this in with the dough.

It is easy to make baked products with cookie cutters just like you would do with any sort of cookie. Have a large amount of dough and find flavors which your dog may enjoy. You should also find out what your dog is allergic too and what dogs in general should be avoiding. For example, it is a known fact that dogs should stay away from onions and chocolate.

Lots of homemade dog treats can be found on the internet so you won't have to go hunting around for something. Once you get the whole family involved, you will find it a fun experience and the results just speak for themselves. Now you can begin to experiment with all sorts of flavors.
