The miniature dachshund is, as its name implies, a smaller version of the traditional dachshund breed. Dogs of this kind typically only weigh twelve pounds. They have a unique appearance, which has earned them their humorous and amusing nickname of "wiener dog." Their unusual appearance is not only due to their petite size, but also their extra long spines, which has likely led to the aforementioned nickname. Dogs of this kind may also develop thyroid problems and eye disorders. It is essential to understand, however, that not all dachshunds will develop health problems.

They become bored rather quickly, and for this reason they should be given a broad range of toys with which to amuse themselves so that destructive behavior can be avoided.
