The horse remains one of the most majestic and well known animals often described in terms of its breed, type or purpose in particular industries. Horse breeds are widespread, which makes it confusing for many who are not clued up when purchasing animals or viewing shows. Ancient cave paintings have revealed the earliest sightings of equines resembling the Przewalski Horse. The animals are believed to have been domesticated around 3000 to 4000 B. C. The range of purposes for the equine has changed considerable over time as the needs of man altered and largely used in agriculture, shows, and transport.

There are different breed categories and polocrosse equipment that have been recognized across the world each possessing unique features and traits. The categories include the purposes each group serves as as the coldbloods predominant in pulling and agricultural activities. The hotbloods are bred for speed and racing whereas the warmbloods are popular in shows including equestrian.

The American Paint Horses and the Appaloosa are characterized by unique coat patterns often doing well in Western events and recognized for gentle temperaments. The Arabian is undoubtedly one of the most common and most beautiful types including a distinguished profile of large nostrils, small muzzles, and streamlined body. Having first been domesticated in the Middle east, it is used for its endurance, stamina, and ability to closely bond with humans.

The Clydesdale is a common working animal that includes an exceptionally strong build and a height over 18 hands. This equine includes unique feathering features over the hooves possessing a thick coat and mane to protect from the harsh climate of Scotland and England mainly used in pulling heavy loads. Shire types are similar in appearance with hair over the feet, muscular builds and a gentle nature that has been described as a Great Horse by medieval writers.

Palominos are identified by its rich golden coat coloring having been owned by royalty and serves as a multipurpose animal in modern society. Such equines have been bred for its unique appearance and the ability to be used in a wide range of activities from shows and racing to rodeos and even parades. The wild mustang is a typical herding equine possessing many colors and features as it was bred with different horses over time.

Thoroughbreds are built for speed having originally developed in England and considered one of the most popular types in America today. With the wide range of horse breeds available, consideration should be made for its build and purpose. This will aid in making the best purchase decision or knowledge of the breed.
