The Process Of Canary Breeding

By Bernice Terry

When making an attempt at canary breeding, it would be best to do some advanced planning. Oftentimes, this would include the preparations for the specialized equipment as well as the foods for the canaries to eat. Another thing would be to know as much about the birds as it is possible. To start with, these are not the social types.

For some that can be a difficult concept to grasp. When people think about birds, they do not picture violence and yet that is what you get with this kind. They often hurt each other, even as mates, so it would be wise to keep them separate for a bit. Learning the proper ways to breed is essential when trying to create a peaceful environment for these creatures.

To prevent any incidents, it may be wise to keep them separate until such a time when they are required to breed. There is a history of violence among these creatures where they may try to actively harm one another. Keep them in separate cages, although they can be kept in the same room.

At some point, they may come into condition. Normally, it is the male who will be first. A sign may be the dropping of their wings as they sing, which will become somewhat louder and harsher. Dancing around the perch is another trait. The females will look as if they are readying a nest. The most tell tale sign would be when the vent will appear swollen and red.

They can be reintroduced once all the signs begin to show. At this point, it is safe for them to share a cage, although the possibility of them attacking each other still exists. Note that are are special cages with dividers that can help out if there are any problems in the future.

On the topic of nests, they can be added personally to the environment. These can be found at pet shops and are either plastic or wire. They are capable of being lined with canary friendly liners. There are even times when the canaries themselves decided to either add to it or build their own.

It is of utmost importance to feed them the right way. Their diet can consist of tiny fruit pieces as well as enriched seed, which are all considered proper diets. For any additional calcium, a cuttle bone or a grit can suffice, and should be given to the female.

It may time some time or perhaps it will happen immediately, but watch out for some kissing. The kissing here is loosely defined, but the act should be recognizable enough. Watch out for any missteps, such as if they begin to fight. Separate them immediately and reunite them after some time.

When all has been accomplished, the eggs should be laid as the results of the entire process. It can be as much as eight, but it is more common to get five. A period of fourteen days must pass before they hatch. The chicks may be separated the moment they learn how to feed themselves. Should there be more attempts in canary breeding, simply repeat every step.
