Value Of A House Call Vet

By Cathy Mercer

Many people have wished there was an easier more convenient way for their pets to be seen by the vet. A blessing for all, a house call vet is now available and at your disposal. Making life easier for both owners and animals, veterinarians are now becoming more and more mobile and making house calls.

The doctors of veterinary medicine have seen that it is easier on the animals and sometimes even the owners when they make house calls. The animals are more comfortable in their familiar surroundings and most everything that can be done in the office can be performed in a mobile unit. These mobile units are equipped with essentially the same things the office has, except it has wheels and is mobile.

There are so many advantages to having services performed in the animals home environment. People get nervous and scared especially when having to go to the doctor. Well, animals are more like humans than many people realize. They too can get scared, anxious, nervous and have motion sickness. The big difference is that animals tend to become defensive making them more aggressive when they are feeling scared, anxious or nervous. This can be very dangerous for the owners, people working with the animals and even the vet.

A feeling of comfort and security is what is driving so many practices to offer the mobile veterinary services. It is more flexible with appointment times and many offer weekend services and emergency services. They are especially nice for anyone that has to euthanize an animal and wants the animal to die peacefully in its home settings.

The worse thing about dealing with a scared or nervous animal is they can become aggressive. The vet may be trying to help them but when an animal is scared, instinct takes over and they try to defend themselves. Being in a familiar setting can certainly help alleviate this behavior and make it safe for both the vet and the animal.

The mobile units offer the same conveniences of an office except they are house in a truck making them portable. These units have x-ray and many times offer onsite laboratory results. Everything you need in one compact portable truck or trailer.

The veterinary offices that have mobile units are equipped with generally the same things as the office however they are portable. They have all the modern conveniences and amenities that is needed in order to perform tests, checkups and exams. They can even perform x-rays and onsite lab work.

Taking your animals to the office may become a thing of the past. These mobile vet units usually accommodate after hours emergency responses, have weekend hours and are available after business hours for those that cannot take time off from work to take care of getting their animals to the vet. A house call vet is a dream come true for animals and owners.
