By Cathy Mercer

When looking to introduce any dog into the family it is vital that one ensure that their chosen breed suits the particular home's environment. For those people that want an intelligent breed of dog, it might be ideal to buy full bred Cavachon puppies. This breed was developed by cross breeding Cavalier King Charles Spaniels with a Bichon Frise.

Due to the fact that they are small; and have non-shedding coats they are perfect indoor or lap dogs. Other characteristics are their big expressive eyes and sporty appearance. Additionally they are sturdy, animated, lively and alert which are all suited for people with older children; however they will adjust to any type of home life and are tolerant of small children.

Their temperaments are placid however they will alert people to any new sounds or smells, this makes them perfect indoor "alarms". If left unattended for lengthy periods they will become stressed as this does not suit their personality. A plus is that they get on well with other animals including cats which are often a problem for a family that does not know how to introduce a new dog to their family feline.

Cavachons adjust well to indoor living and are thus suited to apartment living. Besides being indoors, this breed will also enjoy outdoor family activities. Recommendations are that they be walked only while attached securely to a leash and when off-lead within a fenced safe area. But truthfully any activity involving this clever pooch will be memorable occasions.

This breed comes in several different colors with each color having a variety of richness to it. The more commonly found colors are apricot, red, mahogany, black sable all of which can have touches of white or tan; in some rare instances tricolored Cavachons can be found as well. It is these unique markings and colors that make this breed so appealing to many people.

Depending on their type of coat one may need to brush them or even send them to the doggy parlor for grooming; but they are highly suited for those allergic to dog hair. Caring for ones pup will involve checking as well as cleaning their ears to prevent infections. Another area that will require attention is their teeth which may rot and then fall out; making dental hygiene a priority.

As with any breed obedience training or socialization should be done early in the dog's life. Bichon Frise characteristics found in this breed do make them stubborn and firm training coupled with patience is a necessity. Most live for a period of about 12-15 years, therefore they should be considered as a long commitment.
