Choosing A Burberry Dog Collar

By Aimee Schwartz

Collars are used around the necks of dogs for many different purposes, including identification, control, giving medical information, repelling parasites and more. A huge variety of collars is available from online stores in many colors, patterns, and sizes. A burberry dog collar is one of the luxury options available, and the trademark fabric is very distinctive.

The trademark Burberry fabric was first used by the well-known British fashion house for their range of collars. However, their current line does not include collars. These originals can be found on sites such as eBay. However, many other suppliers of accessories for dogs have been inspired to use these iconic fabrics on their collars which are being sold online.

The materials used for making these collars need to be considered when making a choice. However, size is probably the most important factor. Collars are inhumane if they do not fit correctly. Too snug and they are painful. If they are too loose, they may fall off. A general rule of thumb is that with a small breed, one should be able to fit a finger between collar and neck. For a medium breed, two fingers should fit and with a large breed, three fingers.

Another factor to bear in mind when determining fit is the breed and the amount of fur on the animal. Collars should be a comfortable fit whether dogs have just been groomed or whether the hair is a bit longer. Some collars are easily adjustable, and this accommodates for quick growth and variations in hair length.

Collars can be both thin and wide in width. The thinner ones are usually more suitable for smaller dogs. They tend to weigh less and a wider one may be too heavy. Wider ones are better for larger dogs as they give more support. Wider ones tend to be more comfortable, placing less pressure on the neck than the thinner variety.

There are many different types of collars suited for different purposes. However, the best choice for most purposes is collars with buckles. Leather or nylon is often used for such collars and the buckles are constructed of many different materials, from plastic to metal. Leather is long lasting and the oils in the skin make it softer the longer it is worn.

A number of suppliers of these accessories offer customization and collars can be handmade to order. Others offer a wide range of images of their collars on their sites. Some styles are more classic than others. A checked fabric with a brown trim or a black, red and tan plaid is a more traditional choice. A less traditional choice of fabric would be a pink, grey and black check on a pink background. This is a particularly cute option for a small lapdog. One can purchase tartans in all sorts of colors from a striking highland red to one in green, blue and black.

When choosing collars for pets, size, budget, functionality and materials are all important. However, appearance is always secondary to comfort. An item should never be chosen without considering all the factors that could affect the comfort of the pet. However, once the right fit is found, one can choose from a huge variety of options with regard to color and style.
