Suggestions Before Choosing Persian Kittens For Adoption

By Christine Walker

Doctors and mental health experts continue to tout the benefits of having a pet in the home. They theorize that pets help people live longer and better and enjoy a lower risk for illnesses like high blood pressure and depression. When you are interested in Persian kittens for adoption, you might wonder how to choose one that will be a good fit for your household. You may find a kitten that will become a lifelong friend by keeping some simple tips in mind during your search.

Many animal experts warn people like you to avoid puppy and cat mills. Mills are essentially breeding facilities where the goal revolves around putting out litters to sell for a profit. Little regard is given to the health of the animals or their socialization. Many kits and pups are taken too soon from their mothers, putting them at risk of compromised immunity. Many of them are also raised in dirty, dangerous, and poorly ventilated cages.

Humane societies, on the other hand, are many people's first choice in their quest to find the perfect pet. A humane society is sometimes called a pound or an animal shelter. They are usually funded in part by the city or county that they serve. However, they also are routinely inspected and by law required to be clean and safe for people and animals alike.

Many of them also use stringent application processes to match potential adopters with pets that might be a good fit for their families and households. They believe it is important to avoid placing pets who are afraid of other animals into households with other cats and dogs. Likewise, animals that need constant companionship avoid going to homes that do not have other pets in them.

After you choose a location from which to adopt your new kitten, you then want to make sure it is in good overall health. Feline health particularly during the first two years can be fragile and unstable. A kitten might look fine at first glance but actually suffer from an underlying condition that could shorten its life.

If you see signs of illness, you would have the right to ask for the kitten to be treated before you adopt it. You also may want to ask about its digestive health and whether or not it has worms. These illnesses can spread to other pets in your household particularly other cats that are elderly or have conditions like diabetes or feline leukemia.

You might feel uncomfortable asking questions or taking the time to do research. However, when you want to avoid a sad situation with the kitten dying or suffering needlessly, you would do well to commit yourself to the fact finding process. The new pet will thank you as will people in your household.

Many people like Persian kittens because they are fluffy and cute. However, the fluffy cuteness may fade in time and leave you with a pet that is in poor health or poorly socialized. You can head off disappointment and sadness now by knowing from where to select prospective pets for your household.
