Before You Visit Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breeders

By Douglas Allen

At this point in time in your life, you may be deciding on getting a pet as a companion. And many of your friends, who are themselves pet owners, may have suggested that you get a dog and visit the nearest Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breeders in your city. Before you do jump in for a purchase and a final commitment, do read on in this article to furnish you with some important information.

Expect to plunk down anywhere from USD 1,800 to USD 3,500 for a puppy of this breed. The price variation of course depends on overall demand and supply, as well as factors such as champion bloodline and breeding. It is by no means a cheap pet to buy at the offset, so you should be prepared to take care of it to protect your investment.

In general, the adult females and males will respectively achieve standard weights of 5.9 kilos to 8.2 kilos, which roughly converts to about somewhere between thirteen to eighteen pounds. This spaniel is not a very big dog either and will achieve only around eleven to thirteen inches in length. Due to this size it is classified as a sporting toy breed, for it does have sporting and toy dog characteristics and personalities.

The dog is a lapdog and loves to be around humans, which is a personality trait and characteristic of the toy breed. It craves human closeness and companionship and it will go kind of crazy and stressed if away from humans for too long. If left alone for extended periods, it will start to chew things and destroy anything it comes in contact with. Thus one cannot afford to leave this canine alone for very long.

As for its sporting traits, this is a very active dog to boot. It will love to chase other small animals like squirrels or mic it sees outside, and the occasional insect also. When it chases things it will not pay attention to anything else, and will even cross a busy road. As such, it may be best to keep it fenced in, or at least on a leash.

The breed has fine and long fur that is quite prone to matting. Due to this it will need to be regularly brushed, once a week at the minimum at least. The fur has to be trimmed regularly also especially around the anal and hind areas, which can be prone to infection. Also one should not mistake the fur to be hypoallergenic as it is not.

This is a dog that is however, quite easy to train, as it responds positively to praise and such, although at times it can be overly playful. In terms of temperament this spaniel is affectionate and polite and will get along with anyone.

As the dog ages, as with most canines, it will have its fair share of medical complications. This will run the gamut of knee and eye problems all the way to hernias and heart conditions. Thus one should be prepared as this dog gets older.
