Qualities Of A Dressage Training Instructor

By Elizabeth Smith

There are increased horse activities as people take advantage of the sunny weather. Using a horse requires one must be a good rider failure to which one risks putting their lives in danger. Dressage training is hence important to give one the essential riding skills required. The following are some of the characteristics one can look for in a good instructor.

A good trainer is one who understands that each of his trainees has special needs that should be taken care of. While one may want to be a competitive horse rider, another one may be in class just to be able to have fun with his horse. Beginners require more attention than those who have been there before. Being able to focus on every individual is essential to help improve each one of them.

Relating well with the learners helps them to respect you as a trainer, and as a result, they can focus on your instructions. When a learner is not happy with the way his teacher treats him, he will not be in a position to enjoy any class no matter how exciting it is to his mates. The trainer should be able to enhance a good relationship by appreciating each trainee and being friendly to them.

Good communication skills enable one to convey instructions in a manner that is well understood by everyone. The greatest discouragement a teacher can experience is teaching something that none of his learners can understand, even after repeating it severally. The method through which the concept is instilled into them is hence essential for them and the trainer too.

A good instructor is flexible. Even though they should stick to the class schedule, there comes a time when they have to change a bit for the sake of the learners. A learner may be feeling discouraged, and they may not be in the mood to earn anything. The teacher should come up with ideas and techniques that will make his subject excited and gain back his interest in the classes.

Patience is a virtue that every instructor should have. Since learners are different, their level of understanding is different too. Expecting them to move at the same pace may discourage those that take time to understand correctly. When dealing with beginners, you will be required to continually repeat a simple concept for them to understand it fully.

No matter how impressive the training is, there comes a time when some techniques seem too hard for the trainees. At this time they will feel down and start thinking they cannot do it. It is the work of their instructor to motivate them by letting them know that being perfect is not an instance occurrence. Giving examples of successful riders that had struggled with their training will act as a word of encouragement.

To enhance their careers, instructors must seek more and more knowledge. They are aware even if they know a lot; they do not do everything pertaining horse riding. Learning new thing is hence a requirement. This can be done by reading related magazines, sharing ideas with friends or even joining professional bodies that offer training to their members.
