What To Know About Egyptian Mau For Sale

By Christine Lee

Cat fanatics who love exotic looks can go for the Egyptian Mau. The reason is because it is one of the two naturally spotted domesticated cats, with the other one being the Bahraini Dilmun Cat. This means that their spotting pattern is not as a result of human manipulation of the feline genes. They have natural spots and stripes which distinguishes them from other feline breeds. Here are facts about Egyptian Mau for sale.

Despite their name which seems to suggest that they originated from Egypt, their place of origin is not clear. For instance, some evidence point to the effect that they are descendants of African wild cat. On the other hand, DNA analysis shows that they may have originated from Europe. In fact, some phylogenetic tree indicates that they belong to a group of western-derived breeds.

The modern-day Egypt has very many spotted cats. This further complicates the question surrounding the origin of this breed. On the contrary, Maus share more than just casual resemblance to kitties like the Turkish Angoras, Korat, and Maine Coon. Moreover, Maus and the abovementioned western cat breeds have a close genetic resemblance.

Without regard to the origin of this cat, it is clear that they are a rare species and are beautiful. They are given the looks of a miniature jungle cat by their spotted bodies. Their bodies are slender and muscular with somewhat exclusive anatomy, behaviors and metabolism. For example, their legs are among the aspects with anatomical difference. Their hind limbs are slightly longer than their front limbs.

These breed has a skin fold underneath their bellies, which presents another anatomical variance. The skin fold looks like that found in cheetahs. This makes them run faster by stretching back farther. The fact that they run fastest than all domestic cats makes them an equivalent of the greyhounds in the cat world.

The Maus are quite the jumpers and climbers. As such, owners must invest in a tall cat tree. They are highly active when engaged in games such as fetch. When not playing, they enjoy sitting in a lap. They are loyal and fiercely devoted. This means that they enjoy spending time with people. However, they have the tendency of loving one particular member of a family more than the others.

They need early socialization considering their tendency to be friendly and loving with only their main owners. Early socialization is also necessary to ensure they warm up easily to other pets and people. Despite the Maus being peaceful and calm, they are hunters. As such, one should be careful with other pets such as rabbits, birds, and hamsters in the home. Socialization is the key to rooting out this behavior.

Lastly, it is easy to tell when they are happy. They show this by chortling quietly, kneading with their front paws, and swishing their tails rapidly. Also, they are quite sensitive to temperature changes. They prefer warm temperatures. Their sensitivity does not end there as they are also sensitive to anesthesia and medicines. Breeders must also be preferred for a longer gestational period of about 73 days from the usual 65 to 67 days.
